Daniel Radcliffe recently contacted Dominic McLaughlin, the actor playing Harry Potter in the upcoming HBO series, as the show begins full production.
It’s been 24 years since Daniel Radcliffe first played Harry Potter, bringing the character to life on screen. Now, 14 years after the final movie, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,’ the story is about to start again with a new generation.
So, HBO announced they were going to make a TV show out of the books back in 2023, and it’s been non-stop progress ever since. They’re saying it’s going to be a massive project, a real 10-year undertaking, which is pretty wild to think about!
We started making this project way back at the beginning of the year, and it’s been intense! They actually built a whole school near the set just for all the kids who are acting in it. The main one everyone’s talking about is Dominic McLaughlin – he’s the new kid playing Potter, and he’s only 11 years old! It’s pretty amazing to see.
It’s come full circle – Daniel Radcliffe recently reached out to the young actor taking on the role, offering his support and best wishes for the challenges ahead.

Daniel Radcliffe sends Dominic McLaughlin kind words amid Harry Potter production
The new HBO series is scheduled to premiere in 2027 and is currently being filmed. Daniel Radcliffe recently shared on Good Morning America that he contacted people he knew working on the show to get in touch with Colin McLaughlin.
“I sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back,” Radcliffe revealed.
I simply wanted to wish him well and express my hope that he enjoys the experience even more than I did – I had a wonderful time, but I’m hoping his is even better.
After seeing the first photos from the new movie, Daniel Radcliffe said he feels a strong urge to show support and affection to the young actors involved.
It’s funny to see them so young and remember when I was going through the same things. It’s really sweet, and I hope they’re enjoying themselves.
In 2024, Daniel Radcliffe dismissed speculation about his potential involvement with the HBO series, noting that HBO intentionally wanted a fresh start without any connection to the original material.
It’s still unclear if any actors from the original films will make cameo appearances. The new cast is largely set, with Nick Frost taking on the role of Hagrid and Paapa Essiedu playing Severus Snape. However, the actor who will play Voldemort hasn’t been revealed yet.
