Dan Trachtenberg Confirms Predator Future Amid New Paramount Deal

As a big fan of the Predator movies, I’m thrilled to hear Dan Trachtenberg is staying on board! He’s directed the last three – including the fantastic Prey from 2022 and the upcoming Predator: Killer of Killers in 2025 – and really breathed new life into the series. Even though he’s signed a new deal with Paramount, it sounds like we’ll be getting even more Predator films from him, which is amazing news for fans like me.

However, don’t anticipate any concrete announcements in the near future. Although Trachtenberg states the new agreement with Paramount doesn’t rule out him directing another Predator film, he’s still finalizing the specifics.

Director Shane Trachtenberg is currently exploring several potential directions for future Predator movies, as he was after the release of Prey. He’s particularly enthusiastic about the idea of a Predator character taking the lead and developing an animated film that spans different eras. These ideas are all coming together at once, and he feels there’s a lot of exciting potential for the franchise.

I’m really excited about my new deal with Paramount. They’re eager to help me create the kinds of original films I’ve always dreamed of, and they have a lot of other great projects too. While timing might change things, I’m open to all possibilities – anything could happen.

Dan Trachtenberg Still Involved With Predator After Paramount Deal

As a huge fan of the Predator franchise, I was really excited about Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands, and it didn’t disappoint! It was a big win for Disney in 2025, bringing in $184 million globally. Considering it cost around $105 million to make, that’s a fantastic return, especially when you factor in its initial release.

The latest Predator film takes the franchise in a surprising and fresh direction. Unlike previous movies, this one is set in 1719 on the Northern Great Plains and stars Amber Midthunder as Naru, a Comanche woman.

Trachtenberg’s next film was an anthology, released on Hulu in 2025. It was followed by the theatrical release of Predator: Badlands, which notably features a Predator alien as the main character for the first time.

Although Shane Black isn’t sure what direction he’ll take with the Predator series, he shared some potential ideas in a recent interview. He mentioned opportunities to explore the franchise through both animation and live-action, with a wide range of new characters, time periods, and locations. Black is particularly excited about taking the series on unique journeys that haven’t been seen in other sci-fi franchises.
