Dakota Johnson Always Rocks Her Tan Lines On The Red Carpet, And It’s So Refreshing

Celebrities pay attention to even the smallest details when preparing for red carpet events. Every aspect of their look – from hair and nails to jewelry and makeup – is carefully planned and coordinated. While they often appear flawless on the red carpet, this glamorous presentation isn’t always an accurate reflection of their everyday appearance. That’s why I’ve been so impressed with Dakota Johnson for confidently showing off her tan lines this summer at various events.

It’s totally normal to get tan lines during the summer. We often see celebrities sharing beautiful vacation photos, even rocking bikinis – like Johnson did with her mom, Melanie Griffith, recently. You might expect to see lots of tan lines on the red carpet, but spray tans and makeup help minimize their appearance more than you’d realize. So, they don’t show up as often as you might think. It’s a little trick of the trade!

However, Dakota Johnson essentially made it acceptable to show off tan lines on the red carpet during the summer of 2025. A prime example of this was at the 59th Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where she confidently displayed hers.

To be honest, it’s unclear if anyone even noticed her tan lines with such a striking neckline on her Mugler dress. While velvet might seem like a daring fabric choice for July, I definitely approved of it.

I’m not suggesting that Johnson doesn’t care at all about how she looks on the red carpet. She obviously spends a considerable amount of time, thought, and effort on her outfits, as evidenced by her memorable choice of a sheer web dress for Madame Web. However, I admire her honesty about embracing natural things like bikini lines, and feeling comfortable showing them off. She did this again while wearing this Splitsville premiere dress:

That dress was from Gucci, and although I immediately noticed the shimmering fabric, it’s obvious she didn’t pay much attention to hiding her tan lines. It’s a bold look! Perhaps she was going for that effect.

Overall, it’s nice to see a celebrity breaking away from the typical red carpet glamour. Hopefully, this encourages a more relaxed and natural trend of enjoying good times and showing off a summer tan on the carpet. While Johnson has been sporting more wintery styles recently, let’s look forward to summer with fun looks featuring tan lines from socks, shorts, and bikinis!
