The father of a young Philadelphia Phillies supporter, who returned a home run ball to an upset woman after it went viral, later shared his reasons for doing so in the aftermath of their public altercation.

For many sports enthusiasts, particularly the young ones, attending a baseball match and securing a ball – whether it’s a home run, an errant throw, or even a souvenir tossed by a player – is a cherished dream.

On September 5, Drew Feltwell believed he’d fulfilled a dream for his son Lincoln by catching a baseball at a Phillies game; however, this act didn’t sit well with another fan who approached him. This woman, now known as “Phillies Karen” on social media, challenged Feltwell and insisted that he give the ball to her since it had rolled close to where she was seated.

With the ball already in his son’s mitt, the father passed it on. “That’s our ball!” the mother called out to the father, broadcasting live on TV.

Phillies dad explains why he gave home run ball to angry fan

Over the past few days, the heartwarming interplay between father and son has become a popular topic on social media platforms, receiving numerous warm responses not only from the team but also from their supportive fanbase.

Additionally, they were interviewed on NBC 10 Philadelphia, where Drew discussed the matter, explaining his reason for returning the ball. “I chose to pass the ball to her, I apologized (to Lincoln),” he stated. “It was the appropriate action, we just wanted her to leave.

I had gone to catch the home run ball, and I felt like I’d achieved something impressive by doing so. Placing it in his glove held significant value for me. However, her insistence and loud cheers were overwhelming, and I found myself wanting to escape from it all.

Instead, Feltwell expressed his reluctance about doing something that might lead to feelings of remorse, given the woman was near both him and his loved ones.

“That was the choice I made, hand her the ball back and tell her to go away,” he concluded.

Lincoln expressed that he wasn’t thrilled about the woman regaining possession of the ball, but thought it was inevitable.
