Aldis Hodge, a well-known actor and producer, will be the host for an annual event celebrating Black women’s contributions in movies and TV shows. This year’s ceremony, happening on February 27th at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, is themed “Scene and Unseen” to bring attention to the often-overlooked creativity that shapes the entertainment world and beyond.

Essence will air a unique pre-show event (starting March 3 on their YouTube channel) to offer viewers a behind-the-scenes glance at the red carpet arrivals and announce the winner of the first-ever ESSIES’ Choice Award. This award, decided by fans, spotlights an up-and-coming figure in the industry who encourages a collective creative adventure.

Similar to many other award ceremonies this season, the Black Women in Hollywood Awards will likewise address the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires by pledging their support towards ongoing relief initiatives within the historically Black communities of Altadena, Pasadena, and nearby regions, as the media company takes action.

This coming Friday, February 28th, Essence’s programming carries on with the sixth annual “Essence Hollywood House,” themed “To Altadena With Love.” This event is open to everyone and welcomes aspiring filmmakers, actors, and TV/film enthusiasts for a day packed with networking opportunities, panel discussions, skill-enhancing activities, and mentoring sessions.
