
Igor Sarzynski, a lead developer on Cyberpunk 2, has shared why the game primarily uses first-person cutscenes. He believes they create a more immersive experience by avoiding breaks in perspective, unlike traditional cinematic cutscenes.
Igor Sarzynski shared screenshots from the development of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC in a BlueSky post on January 22nd, and commented on them there.
Sarzynski noted that while third-person cutscenes can look good, making the player truly feel part of the game is more important.
Cyberpunk dev explains why immersion comes first
Sarzynski shared some older photos from the making of Phantom Liberty, noting that the game’s impressive visuals made creating cutscenes a particularly enjoyable process.
He ultimately preferred being fully immersed in the experience, and felt using a first-person camera view helped achieve that.
Found some old photos I took while working on Phantom Liberty! Setting up cutscenes was really enjoyable because the game looks incredible. But ultimately, we decided keeping the experience seamless and immersive was more important.

Although Sarzynski didn’t mention Cyberpunk 2 directly, he hinted that the next game will likely use more cutscenes shown from the player’s perspective. The original Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion mostly kept the camera close to the player, which helped create a very immersive experience.
When Sarzynski saw someone say they preferred a different style, they replied that trying to appeal to everyone often means appealing to no one. They added it’s perfectly fine if someone doesn’t connect with their creative choices.
He kept explaining that including optional cutscenes shown from a different character’s perspective would significantly increase the game’s size – by around 75% – and wasn’t practical. It’s still unclear if he was talking about plans for Cyberpunk 2 or just making a general point.

Marcin Sarzynski has often provided updates on the progress of Cyberpunk 2077. Recently, he discussed the reason why the male version of the main character, V, wasn’t featured as much in the game’s later promotional materials.
