As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must say that the recent collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Balatro is nothing short of a dream come true. Growing up playing both Cyberpunk 2077 and Balatro, it’s like these two worlds have finally collided in a way that feels organic and exciting.
CD Projekt Red is returning the enthusiasm Balatro expressed towards Cyberpunk 2077 a few months back by incorporating a quest inspired by the roguelike card game. This new surprise has become discoverable in Night City following the release of Update 2.2 for their action-RPG.
On the X platform, the Balatro account hinted at a crossover event, displaying an image where Jimbo, their poker-themed mascot, was depicted as graffiti within the game Cyberpunk 2077. This revelation sparked CD Projekt Red’s global PR director, Radek Grabowski, to confirm that this collaboration is legitimate and tied to a fresh in-game mission.
Hey @CyberpunkGame, what the hell is this?

Previously, I posed a question to the Quest Design team at CDPR: “Did you enjoy the Cyberpunk cards in Balatro? What if there were Balatro cards in Cyberpunk 2077 instead?” Thanks to the creativity of quest designer Maria Mazur, we now have the Balatro quest as part of Update 2.2, according to Grabowski on X. Great job, Maria!
In the update for the game Cyberpunk 2077, Grabowski mentioned that the character originally known as the Joker from Balatro has been incorporated into the action-RPG as well. The PR director acknowledged CD Projekt Red artist Olgierd Ciszak for his design of this character.
Just as The Witcher and Cyberpunk cards in Balatro were made in-house at CDPR, so is the new “Cyberpunk Joker” card now found in Cyberpunk 2077 following Update 2.2. This creative masterpiece was brought to life by one of CDPR’s skilled artists, Olgierd Ciszak. ✨

This week, unexpectedly, Cyberpunk 2077 rolled out Update 2.2. This update includes enhanced personalization options for vehicles within Night City, additional automobiles to acquire, a revamped photography mode, among other improvements.
Earlier plans included a collaboration between Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, where Geralt of Rivia could have visited Night City. However, CD Projekt Red has clarified that there won’t be an upgrade specifically for PS5 titled “PS5 Pro patch” in Cyberpunk 2077.
