Crytek has made a tough decision to let go of 15% of its workforce, impacting around 60 employees out of the total 400. The company acknowledges this as an unfortunate but necessary step to propel its growth further. This move comes after Crytek postponed the development of Crysis 4 towards the end of 2024 in favor of focusing more intensely on their live-service game, Hunt Showdown: 1896.
Similar to many companies within our field, we’ve faced challenging market conditions that have affected us for several years, as expressed by Crytek founder Avni Yerli in a public announcement. Consequently, it is with regret that we announce the unfortunate necessity of dismissing approximately 15% of our workforce, which amounts to around 60 employees. These layoffs encompass both development teams and shared services. Making this decision was not easy, given our high regard for the dedication and skill of our staff. Following the postponement of Crysis game development in Q3 2024, we have attempted to reassign developers to Hunt: Showdown 1896 project instead.

Showdown 1896. This game has recently experienced a significant increase in popularity–perhaps because Post Malone is a strong supporter of it–and Ghostface, the iconic horror movie antagonist, was added to the roster of villains towards the end of 2024.
In recent times, Crytek has become part of a growing group of companies that have announced job cuts. This follows similar moves by developers like BioWare (responsible for Dragon Age: The Veilguard), Thunderful Games (creators of SteamWorld series), and Reflector Entertainment (developers of Unknown 9: Awakening), all of whom have been compelled to reduce their workforce.
