Crunchyroll Reverses Course in Controversial 2026 Update

Loyal fans and subscribers recently received disappointing news in the company’s first update for 2026.

Crunchyroll customers are reporting that pre-orders for anime and manga, originally placed with Right Stuf Anime, are being canceled. While customers are receiving refunds and a 20% discount on future purchases, this contradicts Crunchyroll’s earlier assurances that all existing backorders would be fulfilled after the recent acquisition.

This recent issue comes after Crunchyroll decided to remove dubbed episodes for those who don’t subscribe, focusing entirely on a subscription-based model.

Crunchyroll Has Bad News for Anime & Manga Collectors in 2026

Crunchyroll is informing customers that they will no longer receive backordered anime and manga originally purchased from Right Stuf, according to a recent post by @MangaAlerts on X (formerly Twitter).

Crunchyroll has cancelled your backorder from Right Stuf Anime and you won’t be charged. They apologize for the inconvenience and are offering 20% off your next purchase at the Crunchyroll Store.

We’ve cancelled the following items from your backorder: Yu-Gi-Oh! R Manga Volumes 1 and 2, The Testament of Sister New Devil Storm! Volumes 2, 3, and 5, and Stepping on Roses Graphic Novel 2.

After Crunchyroll bought Right Stuf Anime, they promised customers that all existing orders would still be delivered. However, four years later, many loyal Right Stuf customers and anime fans are saying their shopping experience with Crunchyroll has changed.

On X, @/MangaAlerts pointed out that there isn’t much new to say about the Crunchyroll store, as most things have already been discussed.

I’ve had a really negative experience with their customer service and online shopping. They’ve also been subtly lowering discounts for all customers, even those who pay for a subscription. And to top it off, they removed me from their affiliate program simply for pointing this out.

Look, I’m glad things are working for you, but honestly, my experience hasn’t been great, and I’ve decided to take my business to someone who can better meet my needs. I’m just not sticking around hoping things will change.

Crunchyroll hasn’t yet publicly addressed the unexpected cancellation of pre-orders placed by original Right Stuf customers in 2022.
