Anime remains incredibly popular, and a recent movie based on one of the genre’s biggest successes is now reaching audiences around the globe.
The next *That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime* movie, *Tears of the Azure Sea*, is coming to theaters internationally thanks to Crunchyroll. The streaming service announced the release at New York Comic Con, promising a worldwide screening for fans – with the exception of most countries in Asia.
Crunchyroll Brings New Reincarnated as a Slime Anime Movie to Theaters in Worldwide Release
This is the second time the series has been adapted into a movie, following *That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond*, which had a limited release in theaters internationally through Crunchyroll. The announcement of Crunchyroll’s *Tears of the Azure Sea* suggests a wider release, a major achievement for the series. Like *Scarlet Bond*, *Tears of the Azure Sea* will tell an original story separate from the main plot.
Following the celebration that marked the founding of the Demon Kingdom Tempest, Rimuru and his friends receive an invitation from Hermesia, the ruler of the elven nation Salion, to relax at her exclusive island resort. Their peaceful getaway is disrupted when a woman named Yura arrives, leading to a new and unexpected event unfolding against the beautiful backdrop of the ocean.
Following the end of the anime’s third season in September 2024, a fourth season was announced. A short preview released in February 2025 gave a Japanese release date of February 27, 2026. Crunchyroll recently shared an English-subtitled version of the preview, but the release date for other countries is still to be determined.
I’m a huge fan of *That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime*! It originally started as a web novel the author put online from 2013 to 2016, and then it got turned into a manga by Taiki Kawakami. The story is just amazing – it’s about a regular guy who gets reborn as a slime named Rimuru Tempest, and he ends up becoming super powerful, making friends, and even building his own monster nation! It’s become a massive franchise with tons of spin-offs and multiple anime seasons, and it’s already sold over 56 million copies around the world – it’s a real phenomenon!
