Be warned: This article reveals major plot points from Season 2 of Cross. The intense cat-and-mouse chase between Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge) and Rebecca/Luz (Jeanine Mason) in the Amazon Prime Video thriller has reached a heartbreaking conclusion. This case has deeply affected Alex, possibly more than any other except the murder of his wife. Although Rebecca was a ruthless killer, she also targeted and killed those who had hurt others, acting as a vigilante.
Alex struggled to understand Luz’s actions, and his attempts to convince her to stop and trust his promise of justice were ignored. This disagreement culminated in a dramatic season finale, leaving Alex questioning whether he wants to continue working there.
The Villian Luz Didn’t See in Plain Sight in the ‘Cross’ Season 2 Finale

For years, Luz worked with Donnie and her aunt Clare to find out who killed her mother. But she eventually discovered a shocking betrayal: Clare had actually been involved in the murder. She’d secretly worked with Lance to have Luz’s mother killed, motivated by money.
Learning this new information really casts a dark shadow over everything Luz has been doing, especially with Clare assisting her – even if the people they targeted did deserve some kind of punishment. It’s heartbreaking to watch Luz continue down this path, now setting her sights on Nat (Sarah Jurgens), completely oblivious to the truth. Meanwhile, Lance is determined to launch Prosperity Seed, no matter the danger to his team – or himself. This project isn’t just a job for him; it’s his entire life’s work, and he’s willing to risk everything to see it through.
Luz had everything carefully arranged. Nat is severely allergic to bell peppers, and her emergency epinephrine auto-injector is missing. With no other option, Luz rushes Nat to urgent care, hoping to save her life. Arriving in medical attire, Luz manages to get Nat into an examination room, where, after a violent struggle, she fatally cuts Nat’s throat. It’s revealed the driver was aware of the plan and immediately takes Luz to meet Lance.
Lance Almost Meets His End in the ‘Cross’ Season 2 Finale

Okay, so things got seriously intense! Luz, after already cutting off Lance’s fingers as part of some twisted ritual, was planning to bury him alive – the same horrible thing he’d done to so many others. She was even using a hole he’d already dug, and where she’d already put Nat’s body. Lance, while begging for his life, actually tried to justify everything by saying that all progress comes at a cost – basically, ‘it’s always been built on death.’ Luckily, Alex showed up just in time, and a gunfight broke out. It was chaotic, but Luz managed to escape.
Now that Lance knows who she is and can reach her, Luz sends the flash drive containing evidence to Alex. She still sees some good in him and hopes he’s the best person to expose Lance and his company’s harmful actions and bring justice to those they’ve hurt or killed.
Alex, a prominent action hero on Prime Video, tells Luz a shocking truth: her aunt was involved in the entire scheme and was responsible for Donnie’s death. Completely heartbroken by this betrayal, and after witnessing Alex shoot Clare, Luz walks to the edge of the bridge and jumps into the water, disappearing before Alex can react.
He felt conflicted about this woman. While he didn’t agree with her methods, he knew she was motivated by a desire to fight unfairness. Driven by her memory and a commitment to justice, he’s determined to complete her work, even though he anticipates significant challenges.
Kayla’s Betrayal Cuts Deep
Both Alex and Kayla are deeply committed to their work, but they have very different ideas about what’s right and wrong, and this becomes obvious in what Kayla does next. After a fun, casual moment together, Kayla begins working with the FBI to track down Alex. She’s driven by envy – Alex is getting more attention than her – and a desire to prove herself after being publicly humiliated and emotionally tested by Roy, the creator of the series. Kayla’s goal is to secure the drive before Roy can reveal its contents. Her plan involves pressuring Crestbrook Industries to fix their issues privately, while allowing Lance to move forward with his launch.
But Alex needs more than that, so he turns to Elle (Samantha Walkes), the only person he truly trusts. He’s even hidden a bag at her place, ready to leave. Unbeknownst to him, Kayla had deliberately kept him on the phone so the FBI could track his location, and she’d betrayed his confidence.
Kayla knows Alex is going to confront Senator Pete Ashford (Josh Peck), even though Alex will eventually understand the situation. The senator recently discovered his mother, a former judge, had helped criminals avoid punishment for murder. He’s the key to solving this case, and might feel compelled to do the right thing. Alex informs the senator that his family has a debt to settle.
Pete Becomes the Public Hero

I was so relieved when Alex finally got that flash drive to Pete! And then, during the conference, Pete absolutely blew everyone away. He announced he was pulling all funding from Prosperity Seed, which was the right thing to do. But it didn’t stop there – he exposed Crestbook Industries for what they are! It was amazing. Then, he unveiled this new Corporate Responsibility Bill, promising to make sure no company ever gets away with that kind of behavior again. Honestly, it felt like a huge victory.
Now knowing what they did, authorities begin searching Lance’s farm and discover several buried bodies. These remains are returned to Mexico so their families can give them a proper burial. One of the most touching scenes in Cross is the reunion of a young boy, whom Alex agreed to adopt with encouragement from his friend John (Isaiah Mustafa), with his older sister. However, the episode ends with a mysterious figure walking by, revealing a tattoo on their back, leaving viewers to wonder if Luz might still be alive.
Where Is Alex in the Final Moments of ‘Cross’ Season 2?

Amazon Prime Video
Alex is deeply upset by everything that’s happened. He’s hurt that Luz felt forced to take action, and furious that so many people in power concealed Crestbrook’s terrible actions for so long – especially knowing children were being exploited and lives were being lost. On top of that, Kayla’s betrayal feels particularly painful, especially considering they were starting to develop feelings for each other, and it’s all become overwhelming for him.

Alex received an award for his bravery – the very same actions that nearly led to his arrest. Not wanting any part of the recognition, he quit his job, turning in his badge and walking away. He explained that his success wasn’t his own, but relied on the help of a few truly honest people. He couldn’t, with a clear conscience, continue working within a system where those in charge ignored so much wrongdoing. Alex’s willingness to sacrifice his career demonstrates his strong moral compass. If Luz is still alive, she’ll likely see he was telling the truth – he was committed to keeping his promise to her, no matter the personal cost. Too many innocent people suffered, but he was equally determined to see Luz brought to justice for her actions.
The popular show is officially returning for a third season, perfect for a weekend of watching! This likely means Alex will go back to work, though it remains to be seen what exactly will bring him back after his time off. We can also look forward to John’s developing story in season two of Cross, where he learns the identity and location of his biological father thanks to a heartfelt conversation with Nana Mama (Juanita Jennings).
Season 2 of Cross is more emotionally complex than the first, presenting a compelling story that puts Alex in a difficult position. He struggles between his professional obligations and his understanding of the woman he’s pursuing. Though he wouldn’t have let her go free, he empathizes with her motives, recognizing he might have acted similarly if he’d known who killed his wife. Ultimately, she reveals widespread corruption, exposing how those in power – his colleagues – ignored terrible acts to protect their own interests.
Alex’s ultimate choice makes him incredibly relatable – he’s someone who strongly believes in doing what’s right, even if it means disobeying orders and becoming a fugitive. He consistently follows his own firm moral compass, and it’s exciting to think about what happens to him next in Season 3 of Cross.
