Criterion’s New Wes Anderson 10-Film 4K Blu-Ray Collection Is 50% Off

Fans of Wes Anderson can now get a great deal on the new Criterion Collection box set, which includes 4K UHD versions of 10 of his films. Called The Wes Anderson Archive, it originally cost $500, but is currently 50% off for $250 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble as part of their holiday sale. This offer lasts until December 7th, or while supplies last.

The box set of 10 Wes Anderson films costs $250, which works out to $25 per movie – about the same as a typical 4K Blu-ray. Since only two of these films are available to buy separately on 4K Blu-ray, this set is the only way to get them all in that quality. Considering the films would cost around $213 to purchase on standard Blu-ray, the $250 price feels like a good deal. Plus, you get both 4K and standard Blu-ray versions of all ten films, including popular titles like The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Wes Anderson: The Criterion Collection

On September 30th, the Criterion Collection added Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Isle of Dogs. Both films, including the 4K Blu-ray versions, are currently 50% off and available for $25 each.

  • The French Dispatch (4K) — $25 ($50)
  • Isle of Dogs (4K) — $25 ($50)

Almost all of the movies in The Wes Anderson Archive are currently 50% off as individual Blu-rays, with a price of $20 each. The only exception is Fantastic Mr. Fox. While buying all ten movies separately would still cost over $200, the complete box set is a better value. If you already own some of the films, consider the discounted Blu-ray versions of Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch, which were released with their 4K counterparts.

The Criterion Collection Wes Anderson Blu-ray Editions:

  • Bottle Rocket (1996) — $20 ($40)
  • Rushmore (1998) — $20 ($40)
  • The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) — $20 ($40)
  • The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) — $20 ($40)
  • The Darjeeling Limited (2007) — $20 ($40)
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) — $32.77 ($40)
  • Moonrise Kingdom (2012) — $20 ($40)
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) — $20 ($40)
  • Isle of Dogs (2018) — $20 ($40)
  • The French Dispatch (2021) — $20 ($40)

Wes Anderson’s films are instantly recognizable thanks to their unique visual style. He often centers his shots, creating a deliberately staged and intimate feel. Each scene is packed with carefully chosen props and costumes that feel vintage and handmade. His soundtracks frequently feature music from the 1960s and 70s, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere. Anderson has also made two stop-motion animated films, both of which showcase his playful and distinctive directing even more strongly.

While the Wes Anderson Archive is a great deal at half price, the Criterion Collection’s CC40 box set is actually the most expensive one currently on sale. Released last year, CC40 includes 40 films – a diverse selection of both classic and modern cinema. It’s a deluxe package with special features for each movie, plus a beautiful 216-page book filled with essays by film critics and experts. If you’re a fan of art house films and have the budget, this is an incredible collection featuring acclaimed titles like Sunday Bloody Sunday, Do the Right Thing, Repo Man, Night of the Living Dead, and Persona.

Besides this set, Criterion offers several other excellent collections. The Godzilla: Showa-Era Films Collection, 1954-1975, is a standout, featuring 15 classic Godzilla movies. It comes in attractive, high-quality packaging and includes an exclusive hardcover book. Currently on sale for $112.48 (normally $225), it’s a great deal for Godzilla enthusiasts – but supplies are limited.
