In the United Kingdom, Craig Wright, who has persistently made untrue statements about being the hidden inventor behind Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, received a one-year suspended prison sentence due to five counts of violating the court’s orders.

The computer scientist was also fined £145,000, approximately $180,000 for his actions.

Wright Breached Court Order

At a hearing held in December, Judge James Mellor determined that an individual holding Australian citizenship violated a court ruling due to his actions of suing creators of Bitcoin.

In October, despite an earlier decree halting any lawsuits against them, Craig Wright chose to disobey and filed new cases valued over $1.2 trillion. Furthermore, he persisted in making a disputed assertion that he is the creator of Bitcoin, commonly known as Nakamoto.

Speaking on behalf of the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), Jonathan Hough KC, who represents a collective of cryptocurrency organizations, emphasized this act of rebellion, arguing that Wright’s behavior was designed to cause “the greatest potential disruption.

Moreover, Hough explained to the court that the actions of the 54-year-old had inflicted considerable damage. He characterized his legal intimidation tactics as a form of “intimidation” aimed at developers and bloggers.

He contended that his recent legal actions were more of a “dramatic publicity strategy” aimed at maintaining the interest of his followers. Furthermore, this former Charles Sturt University researcher went so far as to allege judicial bias, implying that he was being unfairly targeted because of past court judgments that referred to him as “Lord,” which he believes is a reflection of British aristocracy’s disfavor towards him.

Nevertheless, Judge Mellor rejected the accusations and established his guilt of contempt “beyond any reasonable doubt.

The most recent event transpired after a decision made in March, where another British judge dismissed Wright’s assertions that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.

Previously, the judicial system had rejected his persistent arguments about owning the rights to Bitcoin’s intellectual property, as they determined that he had fabricated evidence to bolster his claims.

The court labeled his strategies as “massive counterfeit operations” and deemed his justifications as “tech jargon.” Moreover, it suggested that the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, rumored to possess around a million Bitcoins, could very well be a billionaire.

The report from The Guardian states that Wright appeared at the hearing through a video connection, choosing not to disclose his current location in Asia.

Additionally, he opted not to physically participate, insisting on receiving 240,000 pounds (approximately 300,000 US dollars) as compensation for his costs and potential income loss, prior to adhering to the directive.

The courtroom was also packed during the hearing, with one onlooker wearing a T-shirt reading: “This is just an elaborate fiction.”

Previously, Judge Mellor had questioned the trustworthiness of this Brisbane-raised software engineer in a court decision made in May, labeling him as someone who is “very adept at evasion” and who has often been untruthful in public statements.
