As a seasoned movie enthusiast who’s seen more slashers than I care to remember, I must say that Courteney Cox returning as Gale Weathers in “Scream 7” is nothing short of delightful news! It’s been a decade since we last saw her on the big screen, and I’ve missed her witty banter and tenacious spirit.
Courteney Cox has finally signed on for “Scream 7.”
According to my sources, it appears that the actor has been confirmed to reprise the role of Gale Weathers for the upcoming seventh film in the popular horror series.
In September, Cox mentioned to me that he hasn’t formally committed yet, but there will indeed be “Scream 7.
Cox hasn’t made her way back yet, but she mentioned that she’s holding off until receiving the final script. However, she expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming “Scream” movie as it will be Kevin Williamson’s directorial debut in the franchise. Back in 1996, Williamson wrote the script for the original “Scream.” Cox considers this choice to be excellent, stating that it promises to be an enjoyable experience.
Initially, Cox voiced disappointment upon learning that Dewey (David Arquette) met his end in “Scream 5”. She expressed hope, however, that the filmmakers could devise a solution to resurrect the character. “I can comprehend their rationale,” she said, “but wow! What a missed opportunity for such a cherished character! The ‘Scream’ fans adore Dewey. They must find a way to address this.
The latest news from Cox follows my earlier exclusive report that Mason Gooding will reprise his role as Chad Meeks-Martin. Additionally, it was recently revealed that Isabel May has been cast as the daughter of Neve Campbell’s character Sidney Prescott in the upcoming movie. However, Campbell has stepped away from “Scream 6” due to a disagreement over salary.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’m excitedly looking forward to the release of “Scream 7” on February 27, 2026. However, the journey to this date has been filled with unexpected twists and turns. Production faced numerous hurdles, such as delays, creative revisions, and cast changes.
The “Scream” series, a long-standing horror franchise, has produced five movies so far: “Scream” (1996), “Scream 2” (1997), “Scream 3” (2000), “Scream 4” (2011), and the most recent addition, “Scream” (2022). This series was initially overseen by the late Wes Craven. The franchise restarted with its fifth installment in 2022. The latest entry, titled “Scream VI,” hit theaters globally in March 2023 and has surpassed the franchise’s previous highest domestic box office gross, set by the original “Scream.” It has earned over $108 million domestically and more than $169 million worldwide. To date, the “Scream” series has garnered a total of over $900 million in global box office earnings.
