Costco’s $140 10lb chocolate Easter bunny is designed to be smashed with a hammer

Costco is offering a massive, 10-pound chocolate bunny, both online and in some of their warehouses. Surprisingly, it even comes with instructions for intentionally breaking it open with a hammer!

Costco’s website shows the bunny available for as little as $57, but some customers have found it in stores for up to $140.

A giant rabbit is appearing in stores before Easter, and it’s getting attention simply for its size. Made by Maud Borup, it’s currently only available at Costco.

Costco’s 10-pound chocolate bunny packs over 22,000 calories

This chocolate bunny is crafted from a mix of milk, white, and dark chocolate. It’s large enough to contain 151 servings, with each serving providing 150 calories – meaning the whole bunny has a total of 22,650 calories.

Maud Borup says their chocolate bunny is made with fair-trade chocolate and meant to be enjoyed as both a treat and a beautiful decoration. USA Today reports the company describes it as ideal for Easter morning surprises or as an impressive centerpiece when you have guests.

The bunny, named Pete, was also featured in a social media post from the brand.

The post described Pete, a ten-pound chocolate bunny, as a stunning centerpiece and a social media star. People first admire his impressive size and appearance, then break him apart to enjoy. He transforms from a spectacular display into a collection of shareable chocolate pieces – one large bunny creating many small, sweet moments.

The giant chocolate bunny comes with instructions for opening it. These surprisingly involve either wrapping the bunny in a towel and hitting it with a hammer, mallet, or rolling pin, or carefully slicing through the chocolate with a heated, serrated knife.

If you have any chocolate left over, the packaging suggests using it to make hot chocolate, cookies, or brownies. Customers are also sharing online that the bunny-shaped chocolate is a popular item in stores.

One Instagram user commented that the display was so impressive it stopped people, and a food blog specializing in Costco products warned followers that the bunny was surprisingly large. The post also revealed the bunny was being sold for $134.99.

Costco is also getting attention for a unique new product: a bourbon flavored like their famous $1.50 hot dog and soda combo. This novelty whiskey has been popular on social media.
