Cops called on Demon Slayer cosplayer for bringing fake sword to movie theater

In my gaming world, I’d have to say something like this: “Man, I was just cruising through the city when word got around about a sword-toting dude causing a stir at a shopping center in Melbourne! Turns out it was just a fellow gamer getting into character as a Demon Slayer for a cosplay event. Phew, close call there!

On the evening of September 9th, staff at Southland Shopping Center thought they spotted someone carrying a genuine sword or knife while dressed as a character from a cosplay event. This suspicion led to an immediate alert, followed by a swift intervention from law enforcement around 7:20 PM, complete with flashing lights and sirens.

Upon their arrival at Village Cinemas, the officers discovered a 24-year-old resident of Maidstone, dressed as a character from Demon Slayer, holding an item resembling a sword.

Despite the sword being merely a stage prop for the viewing of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba”, the individual chose to don costume attire to enjoy the movie.

Police take Demon Slayer cosplayer’s sword after security alert

The police confiscated a fake gun and advised the individual to go home without any weapons in the future.

According to Victoria Police’s announcement, no demons were harmed and there were no more disturbances as the man delightfully watched the movie, indicating he was no longer detained.

As a devoted cosplayer myself, I’ve encountered situations where my props have led to unexpected encounters with the police. A memorable instance occurred last August, when during a Resident Evil-themed cosplay event, I was mistakenly apprehended by UK authorities. They mistook my imitation firearm, part of my Hunk costume, for a real weapon. The ensuing events saw me being forcefully brought to the ground and taken into custody. Quite an exhilarating experience, but not exactly what you’d expect at a cosplay event!
