Control 2 Enters Full Production As Alan Wake 2 Has Finally Recouped Development Costs

Finnish game studio Remedy Entertainment recently disclosed their latest financial report, revealing some significant updates about their upcoming games. Among the key points, Control 2 is now in full production, and Alan Wake 2 has managed to recover its development expenses following the sale of 2 million units.

According to their statement, Control 2 officially began full-scale production in February 2025. The team confirmed that the rate of asset creation is consistent, production systems are set up, and they’re now prepared to increase production capacity.

Reaching the “complete development” stage is a noteworthy achievement for any undertaking. Similarly, the well-known game developed by CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 4, moved into the complete development phase towards the end of 2024.

It has been stated earlier that Annapurna is contributing half of the budget for Control 2, a figure that remains undisclosed and may continue to be so. This funding is part of a deal between Annapurna and Remedy, whereby Annapurna will aid in bringing both Control and Alan Wake series to screen adaptations on film and TV. Additionally, the influential Chinese gaming corporation Tencent is an investor in Remedy and its forthcoming ventures.

In addition to the games coming up, you’ll find “Firebreak: FBC,” a multiplayer game slated for release in 2025, which is being independently published by Remedy Entertainment. Moreover, there are remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, developed in collaboration with Rockstar Games. Currently, both Firebreak and the remakes are under active development.

Regarding Alan Wake 2, it’s worth noting that the game has now surpassed sales of 2 million copies, generating royalties for developers Remedy. However, as late as November 2024, the game still hadn’t turned a profit for Remedy. Epic Games financed Alan Wake 2 on the condition that they would recoup their development and publishing expenses first, after which any additional revenue would be shared between Epic and Remedy.
