The date wasn’t a good match for Chandler, but Monica was intrigued by Steve and invited him over for dinner. She’d hired a waitress named Wendy to help, which bothered Rachel, who was also working as a waitress. When Wendy cancelled unexpectedly, Monica convinced Rachel to take her place. However, Phoebe immediately noticed Steve was high, and Monica realized her evening wasn’t going as planned.

Steve was clearly distracted and unable to properly appreciate Monica’s cooking. He absentmindedly ate what she offered without acknowledging her effort. Then, he wandered into the kitchen and began grabbing ingredients, first attempting to eat taco shells before suddenly deciding they should make macaroni and cheese instead.

Monica finally lost her patience when Steve helped himself to her gummy bears, and then ate them right in front of her. When she tried to get them back, the gummy bears ended up scattered all over the place. Steve then started throwing cereal, seemingly to distract from the gummy bear chaos. Though it was a messy situation for Monica, it was quite entertaining to watch.

David Lovitz was hilarious and clearly wasn’t interested in Monica’s attempts to impress him. His scenes with Courtney Cox were great because she showed how upset she was with Steve’s behavior. Finally, Phoebe took matters into her own hands and gave Steve a very uncomfortable massage, sticking up for Monica. That’s the kind of thing fans love about Phoebe!

Steve Showed Up Again On a Disastrous Blind Date With Rachel

The IMDb rating for “The One With the Blind Dates” is 8 out of 10. Joey and Phoebe try to set each other up on dates. Joey initially tries to set Ross up with a history teacher, thinking they’d be a good match, but then changes his mind and cancels the date. He decides he won’t play matchmaker for Ross anymore, and instead plans to have Ross think he was stood up at a restaurant.

Okay, so Phoebe tries to play matchmaker for Rachel, and let me tell you, it backfires spectacularly. Imagine my surprise – and Rachel’s – when Steve shows up at the restaurant! The date immediately goes downhill. He starts with a compliment about how Rachel looks, then immediately undercuts it by pointing out he’s not much to look at, and to top it off, admits he’s not even funny! Seriously, the awkwardness was almost unbearable to watch.

Rachel attempted to change the subject by asking about his restaurant, mentioning Phoebe had said he owned one. However, her hopefulness quickly faded when Steve revealed he’d lost the restaurant due to drug problems – a detail that explained his unkempt look earlier at Monica’s place. After Steve briefly left the table, Rachel called Phoebe to vent her frustrations.

It turned out he’d gone outside repeatedly to smoke marijuana again. The date ended with them leaving the restaurant, after which Steve started crying and made an unwanted sexual advance towards Rachel. Later, when Ross and Rachel ran into each other at the coffee shop, they started piecing together what had happened.

Phoebe and Joey peeked through the window, excited because they thought their matchmaking attempt had succeeded. However, Ross and Rachel were upset and ran after their friends. While Steve was a strange character, actor David Lovitz played him in a way that was genuinely funny. Jennifer Aniston was brilliant at showing Rachel’s discomfort through her expressions. Really, Rachel could have reacted the same way to anyone who made her feel uneasy on a date.

Bringing Steve back was a clever way to connect to a previous episode. It initially seemed like the show was introducing a new character played by David Lovitz. But when Steve talks about his failing restaurant, it becomes clear what’s happening. Phoebe stayed in touch with a former massage client and realized he would be perfect for a truly terrible date.
