On Friday, it was unveiled via a trailer on PlayStation’s YouTube channel that Teamkill Media (behind Quantum Error, Son and Bone) has a new game in the works, titled Code Violet. This upcoming title appears to merge survival horror and sci-fi genres with dinosaurs. Reminiscent of Dino Crisis, it is described as a spiritual successor. As of now, this game seems destined for PlayStation platforms only, and the developers have candidly explained their decision not to make it available on PC.
Code Violet devs won’t release their game on PC to avoid players creating “vulgar” mods
As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but marvel at the abundance of mods available for PC games, especially in titles like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Baldur’s Gate 3. These mods, created by fellow players, offer an array of unique experiences, ranging from the amusing, such as transforming characters into Sonic the Hedgehog within Skyrim, to the beneficial, enhancing gameplay or accessibility.
In the year 2024, Nintendo took a stance against mods that integrated Pokémon into Palworld. However, the Code Violet team isn’t fretting about such modifications. Instead, they are focusing on something else.
Teamkill Media addressed fan inquiries about the PC release of their upcoming game, Code Violet, stating: “Regarding PC version queries… we’ve chosen not to bring it to PC because we don’t want unofficial modifications leading to inappropriate portrayals of our main and other characters in the game.” The team expressed concern that a PC release might harm the esteem of their voice actors and actresses. Reactions to this announcement have been varied, but both opinions seem to be well-represented.
Modifications made by players can sometimes be challenging to manage, as game developers worldwide have adopted varying strategies. Some choose to disregard them and allow players to make their own choices, while others actively support the modding community. For instance, last week, Larian Studios, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, commemorated reaching 100 million mod downloads by offering a list of mods to enhance gameplay enjoyment.
Code Violet may never launch on PC, but it is planned for a PlayStation 5 launch in July 2025.
