Okay, so in Code Vein 2, Jails are seriously important. They’re how I get most of my Ichor back, which is basically the lifeblood of a build. Plus, I love using them to sneak in extra damage when enemies don’t expect it, or to get a few hits in during a boss fight’s openings. But honestly, not all Jails are the same. Some are way better than others when it comes to efficiency and just being overall useful.
Code Vein 2 features six Jails, and you can unlock them all relatively early in the game – I had all of them after around 20 hours of playtime. This is a good thing because it lets players experiment and find the Jails that suit their playstyle quickly.
Here’s a ranking of all the Jails in Code Vein 2. While we’ve ordered them from best to worst, every Jail has its strengths, and even the ones at the bottom can be helpful. So, keep an open mind as we go through the list!
6. Ogre
Claw Master

In Code Vein 2, players begin with the Ogre Jail. Although it’s functional, you’ll quickly want to switch to a different one. The Ogre has very limited range, takes a while to charge up its attacks, and isn’t particularly durable. Its Balance stat of 62 is average compared to other Jails. Simply put, the Ogre doesn’t offer any standout features that would make it a long-term choice.
Even though you’ll eventually want to move past it, the Ogre is still useful when you first start playing. I recommend using it in early fights against weaker enemies and bosses. It does good damage, particularly with its charged attack, and can let you get in a quick hit while the enemy isn’t paying attention. If you’re not happy with the Ogre and don’t have anything else, you can upgrade it at MagMell using Pure Platinum.
5. Ivy
Major AoE
I really like using Ivy in Code Vein because of its wide-area attack. When activated, a large circle appears on the ground that you can move around with the analog stick. Releasing the button causes spikes to erupt, damaging enemies and draining their health. While it’s very strong, Ivy isn’t my top pick because it can be a little difficult and slow to execute.
Summoning the Ivy and moving it into position takes a significant amount of time, leaving it vulnerable to enemy attacks and potential damage during use.
Despite one significant weakness, the Ivy Jail is a solid option for your character build. Its Balance stat is very low, only at 16, and its physical defenses aren’t great, but you can compensate for this with other gear and your chosen Blood Code. However, it offers strong resistance to elemental damage like Fire, Bleed, Lightning, and Ice. Given that many bosses use these types of attacks, the Ivy Jail can effectively reduce the damage you take. In Code Vein 2, players can find the Ivy Jail in the Seized Substation dungeon, located in The Sunken City.
4. Stinger
Launch Foes
The Stinger Jail is a strong pick because you can safely drain Ichor from enemies at a range. Though the Bat Jail has even greater reach, the Stinger’s charged attack is unique – it launches enemies, knocking them down and creating a chance for a powerful follow-up. I particularly enjoy using the Stinger to knock enemies prone, then quickly closing in with my Greatsword for a finishing blow. That effective combo is why I recommend the Stinger as a solid Jail option for many builds.
Okay, so I’ve been trying out the Stinger, and honestly, it’s just… okay. Its balance feels a bit off – it’s only at 81, and it doesn’t have great defense. But the biggest letdown is the Jail ability. It’s super basic – you just fire a stinger straight ahead repeatedly, and it gets old fast. If you’re someone who likes a complicated, interesting build in a Soulslike game, the Stinger probably won’t be your thing. If you’re curious, you can find it at Josee’s Outpost in the Sunken City.
3. Reaper
Deflect Attacks
Okay, so I’ve been playing Code Vein 2, and the Reaper Jail is seriously awesome. You can unlock it pretty early on, and honestly, it’s still one of my go-to options even later in the game. It’s got a pretty good all-around stat balance, but the real killer ability is its spinning slash – it can deflect attacks! Once you get the timing down, you’re basically untouchable by regular enemies, and even bosses have a tough time. Plus, it’s got a great reach, so I can safely drain Ichor from a distance. It’s a really strong Jail overall.
The Reaper Jail has a useful feature: when you can’t block an attack – like a powerful boss attack – it will automatically guard instead. This can be a lifesaver, and it’s saved me from defeat many times. The only downside is its relatively low defense, but its benefits definitely make up for it. If you want to get the Reaper Jail, you can find it inside a chest located in the Water Treatment Plant dungeon on MagMell Island.
2. Bat
Drain from a Safe Distance
If you prefer to fight from a distance in Code Vein 2, the Bat Jail is an excellent choice. It lets you summon a swarm of bats that attack your enemies, draining their Ichor and transferring it to you. While the amount of Ichor drained decreases with distance, the Bat Jail has a surprisingly long range, letting you stay safe while still replenishing your Ichor. This makes it one of the most effective Jails for ranged builds.
The Bat Jail’s main weakness is its low Balance stat of 38, but you can easily make up for this with things like Blood Codes and equipment. While its attack power isn’t amazing, that’s not what the Bat Jail is designed for. Its real strength is recovering Ichor safely, letting you stay in fights longer. Plus, it’s simple to unlock – just talk to Lou at any Mistle within The Confluence dungeon.
1. Hound
Best Jail in Code Vein 2
In Code Vein 2, the Hound is the strongest Jail to use. It offers the most defense and has a Balance stat of 124, which is higher than any other Jail. Plus, using the Hound makes you more resistant to enemy attacks that interrupt your own, letting you play more offensively. If you’re unfamiliar, ‘Disruption’ happens when an enemy stops your attack mid-animation.
The Hound Jail is incredibly powerful, delivering a strong, two-hit attack with its jaws when you hold the activation button. This attack pushes enemies back and can even briefly stun them. Plus, the Hound attacks quickly, allowing you to consistently collect Ichor from enemies during combat without slowing down. You can find the Hound Jail in the Sunken Pylon dungeon, located within the Sunken City.
