Cobweb Movie: Sarah’s Monster Face Isn’t Based on a Spider After All

The shocking climax of the 2023 horror film *Cobweb* revealed the terrifying face of Sarah, the monster haunting Peter. Surprisingly, the movie isn’t about a spider at all! The film centers on Peter, a shy boy who investigates strange sounds within the walls of his house. He soon uncovers a dark family secret: his hidden sister, Sarah, has been trapped inside the walls.

The film *Cobweb* primarily follows Peter as he tries to learn the truth about Sarah – why his parents secretly walled her up – and what spiders represent in the story. Viewers have become even more interested since it began streaming on Netflix on September 19, 2025, and it’s currently ranked number 6 on Netflix’s Top 10 list in the U.S.

The film *Cobweb* features Lizzy Caplan, Woody Norman, Cleopatra Coleman, and Antony Starr, known for his role in *The Boys*. It was shown in select theaters starting July 21, 2023.

Who Is Sarah the Sister In Cobweb?

The character Cobweb shared a shocking secret: Sarah is Peter’s older sister, who their parents abandoned in the basement years ago. She explained that she waited until Peter was older before contacting him, hoping he could help her escape.

Sarah revealed a shocking truth to Peter: their parents, Carol and Mark, had intentionally planned her disappearance to coincide with Halloween. She cautioned him that they were dangerous and he could be in danger too. A witness, known as Cobweb, confirmed that Sarah had accidentally killed a trick-or-treater, but their parents covered it up, hiding the body in their garden.

In the story *Cobweb*, Sarah devises a plan to free herself from the basement where she’s being held captive. It involves convincing her brother, Peter, that their parents are cruel and need to be stopped. The plan succeeds when Peter poisons their father, Mark, with rat poison, causing his immediate death. Their mother, Carol, is accidentally killed when Peter pushes her down the stairs, and she then fatally stabs herself with a knife.

Initially, Sarah seemed like Peter’s friend, but the ending of *Cobweb* showed her real, sinister side after her brother rescued her. Though she disguised her voice to sound like a little girl while hidden within the walls, Sarah eventually transformed into a frightening and monstrous creature.

Although Sarah looked mostly human, her glowing eyes and incredibly sharp teeth were immediately striking. Adding to this unusual appearance, her long hair was crawling with spiders. She was also exceptionally strong and quick, moving with a spider-like grace as she pursued Peter’s bullies around the house.

Aleksandra Dragova played the character of Sarah in the movie *Cobweb*. In addition to acting, she’s a skilled stunt coordinator with credits on films like *Subservience*, *The Expendables 4*, and *Memory*.

Debra Wilson provided the voice for the character while incarcerated. She’s a well-known voice actress with credits including *Over the Hedge*, *Batman: The Enemy Within*, and the recent *Eyes of Wakanda*.

Olivia Sussman voiced a younger Sarah in Cobweb

Cobweb Movie‘s Face Is Truly Terrifying

Hidden away in the basement because of her frightening appearance, Sarah developed agile, spider-like movements. Years of mistreatment from Carol and Mark forced her to adapt, learning to climb and devour anything she encountered with her incredibly sharp teeth.

The story never explains *why* Sarah’s face is so frightening. Cobweb simply tells Peter that Sarah was “born this way,” which actually makes her situation even more disturbing. This natural deformity, worsened by years of mistreatment and loneliness, ultimately transformed Sarah into a dangerous and violent person.

The story of *Cobweb* concluded with Sarah imprisoning Peter in a pit in her basement, motivated by envy over his seemingly better life. However, Peter’s teacher, Miss Devine, bravely rescued him and, in the process, uncovered a disturbing secret about Sarah.

Working as a team, Miss Devine and Peter were able to overcome Sarah and imprison her in the basement again. Although Peter won his fight with his sister, he was still deeply affected by the experience. The movie *Cobweb* ends with Peter hallucinating that Sarah is still present in his bedroom, showing the lasting trauma he suffered.

The ending of *Cobweb* suggests Peter will always be haunted by his trauma. While seeing Sarah’s frightening face contributed, the core of his pain stems from his actions – specifically, killing his parents, and the fact that his sister manipulated him into doing so.
