The Cobra Kai saga has concluded, so it’s clear which group between Miyagi-do, Cobra Kai, and Iron Fist triumphed in the Sekai Taika ‘Champions’ Tournament.
The storyline of Cobra Kai primarily centers around the longstanding feud between Daniel LaRusso, the Karate Kid, and his adversary Johnny Lawrence. Additionally, the series delves into the internal conflicts among students at their opposing dojos, Miyagi-do and the main character-named Cobra Kai.
Similarly to its predecessor films, the show focuses on the struggle against supremacy. In the original Karate Kid film, this struggle played out at the All-Valley tournament. The contest was moved to Okinawa in Karate Kid 2. Meanwhile, in Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2, the Sekai Taikai competition took place in Barcelona.
The unfortunate incident occurred there, but in Season 6 Part 3, karate makes its return, as the Sekai Taikai concludes within the Valley, where it all started for Daniel and Johnny. Here’s a rundown of what happens next, beware of SPOILERS…
Who wins the Sekai Taikai ‘Tournament of Champions’?
Following numerous exciting twists, questionable strategies, betrayals, and breathtaking martial arts performances, ultimately, the Cobra Kai dojo emerged victorious in the Sekai Taikai Tournament of Champions, securing their position as the top dojo worldwide.
The opening fights set the tone. In what turned out to be the most spectacular battle of the season, Tory from Cobra Kai overpowers Zara from Iron Fist, leaving no room for pity and ultimately knocking her down with a chilling, “Welcome to the Valley.
Later on, Miguel, now representing Cobra Kai, squares off against Axel from Iron Fist. At first, he finds himself at a disadvantage, but when ordered to injure Miguel severely, Axel is compelled to attack. However, Miguel retaliates with a string of potent strikes, eventually defeating Axel with a powerful kick to the head, thus tying the scores between the two rival dojos.
In this scenario, it’s the responsibility of the Masters (Senseis) to resolve disputes. Master Lawrence from Cobra Kai clashed with Master Wolf from Iron Fist. Initially, Master Wolf overpowered Johnny, until Daniel urged him to deliver a decisive blow to his opponent, which he did quite forcefully.
After learning from his 1984 All-Valley blunder of getting into trouble, Johnny instead focuses on avoiding similar predicaments. He waits for the right opportunity, delivers a swift kick to knock Wolf down, quickly gets back up, lands a punch to his face, and ultimately clinches the victory and the tournament title for Cobra Kai.
Former enemies Johnny and Daniel then lift the trophy together, and their journey is complete.
How Cobra Kai ties up the show’s many loose ends
In the remaining part of the last episode, there’s a focus on providing resolutions for various characters from Cobra Kai. Characters like John Kreese and Terry Silver, who seemed to meet their ends when Silver’s boat detonated in the previous episode. However, it’s important to note that death isn’t always definitive in storytelling.
After the tournament wraps up, life moves forward for the Miyagi-do and Cobra Kai crew. Demetri and Eli are off to college, Miguel’s tagging along with Sam on her adventure to Okinawa, while Tory and Robby are making rounds at karate tournaments as they start their new jobs. There’s a definite spark between them, and Chozen and Kim Da-Eun have found themselves an item too.
In a surprising twist in Mr. Miyagi’s tale, Daniel’s mother discloses that the man he had killed was actually a guard who had stolen his late wife’s necklace. It appears that Miyagi was acting in self-defense in this instance. This aspect of the story could potentially be expanded upon in the upcoming Karate Kid: Legends film.
Regarding Johnny, he’s the one who purchases a house for his new spouse Carmen and their newborn daughter Laura. Meanwhile, Cobra Kai continues to thrive, expanding with a second dojo, and Lawrence is now instructing a blend of Miyagi-do self-defense techniques and Cobra Kai’s aggressive styles.
The series concludes with Johnny and Daniel sharing a meal, their tumultuous history resolved, and their bond cemented for all time.
