CNN is broadening its presence in the Middle East by launching a new venture in Qatar, as part of their wider goal to enhance their international and local content production abilities, according to a statement they released.
CNN’s presence in Qatar will enhance its current Middle Eastern programming and news gathering operations, as well as its regional headquarters, which are located in Abu Dhabi (home to “Connect the World with Becky Anderson”) and Dubai (base for CNN Arabic). Additionally, CNN has bureaus spread throughout the region.
Qatar, currently involved in brokering the truce between Israel and Hamas, is not only its host nation but also a significant supporter of Al Jazeera Media Corporation, a prominent rival to CNN in the region.
The enlargement offers CNN extra resources in the Gulf and Middle East, making it a crucial period as this region dominates global headlines – from geopolitical analysis and live updates to articles about economics, technology, sports, arts, and tourism,” the message emphasized.
The new CNN operation is set to launch in the latter part of 2025, with its base being Doha’s Media City Qatar – a rapidly growing center for international media and tech firms. A group of content creators from CNN will be responsible for publishing on digital and social platforms, as well as producing an inventive weekly show for CNN International, according to the statement.
As a staunch advocate for CNN’s global news coverage, I proudly affirm our unwavering dedication to the Middle East. This commitment is being reinforced and expanded through our newly established operation in Qatar. We are enhancing our reporting capabilities, constructing state-of-the-art studio facilities, and launching a fresh weekly show. All these efforts aim to tell a more diverse array of stories from this region in innovative ways, broadening the scope of our coverage.
Speaking about it, Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, head of Media City Qatar, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re thrilled to have CNN join our community at Media City Qatar – a hub where top-tier media brands can connect, collaborate, and foster innovation.
This expansion underscores the ongoing development of Qatar’s influence in determining worldwide discussions, as it stands at the center of the Middle East – a position that not only allows us to observe growth but actively contribute to it.
