Classic Cillian Murphy Horror Movie To Leave Netflix

The popular zombie film 28 Days Later, starring Cillian Murphy, will soon be removed from Netflix. This critically acclaimed movie, originally released in 2002, helped launch Murphy’s career and is considered a standout in the horror genre. Subscribers don’t have much time left to watch it on the streaming service, as it’s one of several films leaving Netflix next month.

28 Days Later is leaving Netflix next month

The popular film 28 Days Later, starring Cillian Murphy, will no longer be available on Netflix after February 1, 2026. That gives viewers about 17 days left to watch it, according to What’s on Netflix.

Since its debut in 2002, the film has earned around $75 million worldwide (according to Box Office Mojo) and launched a successful franchise with several sequels. The first sequel, 28 Weeks Later, came out in 2007, and 28 Years Later followed in 2025. Most recently, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was released in the UK and is coming to the US shortly.

As a critic, I’ve been checking the scores for 28 Days Later, and it’s clearly resonated with both reviewers and audiences. Rotten Tomatoes shows an impressive 87% from critics and a strong 85% approval rating from viewers. Over on Metacritic, it’s landed a 73 out of 100 from 39 critics, with regular viewers giving it a 7.7 based on over 600 ratings. Basically, the consensus is that this is a well-received and generally favorable film.

28 Days Later tells the story of Jim, a bike messenger who wakes up from a coma to find London in ruins. He quickly discovers that a deadly, rage-inducing virus, unleashed by animal rights activists, has wiped out most of the population and caused society to fall apart. Jim then joins forces with other survivors to try and stay alive.

Let me tell you, Danny Boyle really knocked it out of the park with 28 Days Later, and Alex Garland’s script is a huge part of why. Cillian Murphy leads a fantastic cast, but he’s surrounded by some truly great performances from Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Brendan Gleeson, and Megan Burns, just to name a few. It’s a real ensemble piece.
