As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must admit that the anticipation for Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is reaching fever pitch. The latest revelations about the modern age and its unique features have only served to fuel my excitement.
In our recent exploration, we’ve uncovered the specifics of the final stage of the game within Sid Meier’s Civilization 7, known as the modern era. The talented team at Firaxis Games studio conducted another extensive live broadcast where they delved into the key aspects of the third age in the upcoming Civilization for a solid hour and a half.
Apart from the stream, developers have added fresh articles to the official series website featuring insights into two new characters – Benjamin Franklin and Harriet Tubman. The announcement of the latter has caused quite a stir, albeit not entirely clear-cut responses. It seems this is due to the fact that she was not a traditional leader in political or military senses; some internet users have gone as far as questioning her existence (to the disappointment of many).
Ancient contemporary times
In this rendition, we can say that the contemporary era commences around 1750, marked by rockets as a revolutionary technology, and in keeping with the series’ conventions, futuristic research. Noteworthy is the fact that this phase will officially conclude in the 1960s. The modern age, however, won’t be immediately accessible in the game at launch but will be incorporated into it later on.
Developers have shared that there are several ways to win the game, which can be accomplished on one of four distinct paths: military, diplomatic, scientific, and economic. The end goal of each path is a grand endeavor like launching the first human into space or founding institutions such as the World Bank.
Moreover, the developers discussed several more modifications, including substantial and minor ones. These adjustments include managing intelligence directly from the diplomacy interface (eliminating the recruitment of spies), offering multiple ideologies in contemporary times (such as communism, democracy, and fascism, each with unique research paths), and the ability to direct factory resources towards settlements, yielding various benefits.
As a gamer, I’ve learned that out of the 31 leaders slated for release in this game, five will be special personas. These personas seem to echo the Echo Fighters from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, being alternate versions of other characters with minor visual and trait differences, much like how these differences are subtly portrayed in a Nintendo game.
The Firaxis Games developers have announced that they will be releasing the fifth installment of their developer diaries soon. After Christmas in 2025, we can expect to hear about additional new features. Meanwhile, they’ve shared a brief video detailing aspects like diplomacy and influence.
Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 will be released on February 11, 2025, on PC, PS5, and XSX/S.
