In Civilization VII, there are more than thirty distinct civilizations to select from, spanning three separate epochs. Recently, three Chinese civilizations have been unveiled, each representing various dynasties in China’s historical timeline. Although players can still craft their own narrative of history, China will be one of the few civilizations with a continuous theme across all eras, essentially representing the same civilization. Players won’t get to play the game until a few weeks from now, but fresh details about Qing China have given us a sneak peek into just one of many strategies that can be employed in Civilization VII.

Civilization 7 Reveals Qing China to Complete Trifecta of Dynasties

In Civilization 7, leaders are distinct from civilizations, allowing for a more authentic representation of various civilizations that were historically unique to specific time periods. For instance, cultures like Hawai’i in the Exploration Era, Mississipian in the Antiquity Period, and Mexico in the Modern Age – which didn’t get much attention in earlier games – will now have their own dedicated focus in Civilization 7.

A positive aspect of this division is that various distinct epochs of the same civilization are now illustrated with greater variety. Earlier, although you could control China in Civilization VI to observe architectural changes through time, it was essentially the sole indicator of China’s historical development.

Hereon, gamers will have the opportunity to delve into three distinct eras of ancient Chinese history: The Han Dynasty, a civilization marked by diplomacy and science, offering the Great Wall improvement and the Shì Dàfū scholar-bureaucrat unit, can be accessed during the Antiquity Age. As the game progresses into the Exploration Age, players may choose to represent the Ming Dynasty, an economic and scientific civilization boasting the Mandarin merchant unit and the Forbidden City wonder.

In the Modern Age, players will find Qing China as a playable civilization in Civilization 7. Although it was hinted at before through gameplay footage, the official reveal has made it clear that Qing China is an economic expansionist civ. Unlike Han China’s focus on population growth and Ming’s emphasis on science, Qing China focuses on managing imported resources.

As a devoted admirer, I’m excited about enhancing Kang Qian Shengshi in my Qing China game. This unique ability promises an increase in gold, culture, and influence from imported resources. Yet, it comes at the cost of science growth. Early on, strong scientific advancements could be crucial for players aiming for a Science Victory. They might need to reconsider their strategy or meticulously manage their use of imported resources to avoid unintended consequences.

The proclamation of Qing China marks the final dynasty trio, raising the total known civilizations to 24. However, the game is set to launch with a full count of 31 civilizations. Although not yet officially disclosed, players have spotted Buganda, France, Meiji Japan, Mughal India, and Siam in gameplay footage, indicating they will be revealed soon. Additionally, there are still six leaders waiting for formal introduction, suggesting some of these civs may be unveiled alongside those announcements as Civilization 7 approaches.
