Civilization 7 fans don’t wait for Firaxis and fix game themselves. Title is doing 2 times worse than Civ 6 at launch

The launch of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII was met with significant disappointment, as evidenced by the fact that it boasts just 51% positive reviews on Steam.

Firaxis Studios has been working on fixing issues by releasing updates, with a total of three patches so far. Meanwhile, some enthusiastic fans have taken matters into their own hands, developing modifications to address the game’s most pressing issues since they were unwilling to wait for official updates.

On Civfanatics.com, a number of novel launches have recently taken place. Here are some of the top-rated mods that have grabbed people’s attention.

  1. Sukritact’s Simple UI Adjustments – introduces interface improvements. Of all the mods released so far, this one is the most popular, which isn’t surprising, as it is hard to find a review of Civilization VII in which this aspect of the game wasn’t complained about.
  2. YnAMP – Larger Map, TSL, Continents++ – allows for playing on much larger maps than the basic version of the game allows.
  3. TCS Improved Plot Tooltip – introduces extra information to the tooltip window.
  4. MantisMaestro’s Compact Production Chooser – modifies the game window to take up less space.
  5. Unlock all Civs – unlocks access to all civilizations.
  6. More Natural Wonders – doubles the number of natural wonders that spawn on maps.

The show has a large and very engaged group of fans who modify it, meaning there will likely be an ongoing stream of fresh creations.

Will updates and mods be enough to fix the game’s reputation?

Due to technical glitches and unfavorable player feedback, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII had a somewhat lackluster debut on Steam. On its launch day, the game managed to engage 80,103 players concurrently.

On its debut day, Civilization VI boasted an impressive 162,657 concurrent players, which is over twice as many as any other day so far. It’s worth mentioning that due to purchasing special editions, some players have already started playing Sid Meier’s Civilization VII as early as last week. Nevertheless, even taking into account the high player activity from the first day of this “early access,” the seventh installment hasn’t managed to match the popularity achieved by the sixth part during its initial release.
