Colossal Order has released a new update for Cities: Skylines II that adds a complete bicycle traffic system. This includes the necessary roads and pathways, as well as changes to how citizens travel.
Bicycle revolution
I was so excited to hear what the developers said about this new game! They really want the bikes to feel like a practical way to get around in the city – you know, like they should be in real life. They’ve focused on making biking faster than walking, totally pollution-free, and even good for your character’s health, which is awesome!
People of all ages – from teens to seniors – can use bicycles for transportation, though this isn’t currently an option for children. Whether someone chooses to bike will depend on things like if the family has a car, how good the bike lanes are, and the availability of convenient routes. A key difference from cars is that each person in the household would have their own bike.
Parking is the key to success
A major part of this update focuses on bicycle parking. While some buildings already offer bike racks, we need to add more near bus stops, stores, and workplaces to encourage more people to cycle.
Cyclists can use convenient bike racks and shelters right by the roads, or larger parking facilities. These range from smaller spots for 16 bikes to huge underground garages that can hold over 450, with room to grow even further.
Dedicated roads and new types of paths
The latest update significantly improves cycling infrastructure in Cities: Skylines II. Now you can:
- upgrade roads with single or double bike lanes;
- build separate bike paths – including one-way, two-way, elevated, and tunnel variants;
- use three new bike bridge designs;
- create wide, shared pedestrian-cyclist paths, also in the form of seaside promenades.
Similar to how sidewalks connect to streets, bike paths can link up with roads. Players can then control where cyclists are allowed to ride on those roads and where they aren’t.
New information view
This update includes a new feature that lets you see information about bicycle traffic. With it, you can monitor things like…
- the use of infrastructure;
- the availability of parking spaces;
- the intensity of bicycle traffic.
This tool helps players plan travel more effectively and pinpoint where they need to build new roads or add more bike racks.

With the recent addition of bicycles to the game, Paradox Interactive announced that its Iceflake Studios team will now lead future development of Cities: Skylines II starting in 2026. This marks the end of Colossal Order’s involvement with the series after over a decade as its creators. Today’s update represents one of their final contributions to the game.
