Cillian Murphy responds to internet thinking he was Emaciated Infected in 28 Years Later
Following the unveiling of the trailer for 28 Years Later, viewers suspected that Cillian Murphy, the lead actor from the initial film within the series, 28 Days Later, might be portraying the emaciated, infected character seen in the preview. Yet, after the movie’s premiere in June 2025, it was confirmed that the zombie in the trailer was not Murphy, thereby debunking the speculations.
During an interview with The Observer, the actor portraying Oppenheimer humorously addressed a rumor about his appearance. “It’s wonderful that people think I resemble a zombie corpse,” Murphy quipped. “I find it extremely complimentary.
In my case, I’m often recognized for my absence on social media platforms. During a recent interview, my son enlightened me about the misconceptions surrounding me, showing me an image of a skeletal, diseased character that some folks had erroneously associated with me.
28 Years Later marked the start of an exciting three-film series, where I serve as an executive producer. As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be making an appearance in the sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. In this film, you’ll see me for a limited time. When discussing the second installment, I couldn’t help but express my enthusiasm, saying, “Everyone should definitely catch the second one.” My brief role in The Bone Temple sets the stage for a larger part in the final chapter of our trilogy.
As per the trailer’s information, the film titled “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” is set to be released on January 16, 2026. Nia DaCosta will direct this movie with Alex Garland back as the main writer and Danny Boyle involved in production.
