Christoph Waltz’s Gothic Horror Film Dracula Finds Second Life on PVOD

Dracula is a timeless and incredibly famous character in fantasy. He first appeared in Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel of the same name, and has been reimagined countless times since. A recent adaptation, the 2025 film Dracula starring Caleb Landry Jones, Christoph Waltz, and Zoë Bleu, is currently performing well on demand.

According to FlixPatrol, Dracula is currently a popular movie on Apple TV, ranking among the top 10 most-watched films. It reached number 2 in countries like Argentina, the Dominican Republic, and Slovakia. In the United States, the film is performing well as a premium video on demand (PVOD) title, currently holding the number 9 spot on Apple TV’s most-watched list.

The movie Dracula, also known as Dracula: A Love Tale, is now streaming on Prime Video in certain countries and has become popular there. It’s currently one of the most-watched films on Prime Video in places like Poland, Spain, and the UK, and it previously broke box office records when it was released in theaters.

Dracula Scored Vertical’s Largest Opening Weekend

I’m really excited that Vertical is the company bringing the new Dracula film to audiences here in the US! It’s a French-language film, and it actually premiered over in France on July 30, 2025. We got to see it in theaters a bit later, on February 6, 2026, and I’ve been counting down the days!

Caleb Landry Jones, known from movies like Get Out, stars as Dracula in this new film. Christoph Waltz, famous for his acclaimed performances, plays a priest inspired by the classic Van Helsing character, though he isn’t named in the movie. Zoë Bleu plays Mina Murray, who is portrayed as the reincarnation of Dracula’s wife.

The movie Dracula earned $4.5 million in its opening weekend in the U.S., playing in 2,050 theaters. This is a new record for Vertical Entertainment, surpassing the previous record held by We Bury the Dead, a zombie thriller starring Daisy Ridley, which made $3 million during its opening weekend in January 2026.

Dracula Received Polarizing Reviews from Critics and Viewers

While Dracula did well in cinemas, opinions on the film are mixed. Critics and general audiences don’t quite agree: critics gave it a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while viewers scored it much higher at 82%. On IMDb, the film has a rating of 6.2 out of 10, based on over 31,000 reviews.

Owen Gleiberman of Variety described the new Dracula film as another addition to the endless stream of vampire stories, calling it a pale and unoriginal take on the legend. G. Allen Johnson from the San Francisco Chronicle admitted the film was a mess, but still found it watchable, comparing it to fan fiction.

Viewers on Rotten Tomatoes have a much more favorable opinion, giving the film a positive score. One user, Emily, praised Dracula as a moving depiction of both desire and the pain of lost love. Another viewer, aimee, felt the story was surprisingly relatable, even more so than other fantastical tales.

Many films receive poor reviews but still gain a dedicated fanbase, and Christoph Waltz’s Dracula appears to be following that trend. Despite negative criticism, the film is resonating with viewers, suggesting its story offers something compelling that makes it worth seeing.
