Good news for fans of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Christina Chong will remain with the show until its conclusion. Filming for the fifth and final season is almost finished and will be completed before the Christmas break.
Paramount+ has ordered a fifth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, with six new episodes. The announcement came when season 3 began streaming in June 2025. Season 4 finished filming in July and is scheduled to launch on Paramount+ in 2026, followed by season 5 in 2027.
Like Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has concluded after five seasons, totaling 46 episodes—apparently the maximum number of seasons Paramount+ is willing to produce for its Star Trek shows. The final season of Strange New Worlds finishes the show’s story arc and sets the stage for the beginning of Star Trek: The Original Series.
Christina Chong Is Playing La’an Until The End Of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Christina Chong recently shared that she’s finished filming her role as Lieutenant La’an Noonien-Singh on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds after five seasons. This has led to some confusion among fans about both her and her character’s departure from the show.
Christina Chong has finished filming her scenes for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, ensuring her character, La’an Noonien-Singh, will appear throughout the show, including the final episode. She’s already set to return for season 4, meaning fans will see Lt. Noonien-Singh in all 16 episodes across seasons 4 and 5.
La’an might occasionally miss an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, just like Jess Bush wasn’t in episode 9 of season 3, “Terrarium,” as Nurse Christine Chapel. It’s not uncommon for characters to have different levels of involvement across a season.
Christina Chong’s engaging and complex portrayal of La’an made the character a hit with viewers. She’s appeared in all 30 episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds so far, and it’s highly likely she’ll continue playing La’an for the next two seasons as well.
What Happens To La’an When Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Is Over?
Christina Chong’s role as Lt. La’an Noonien-Singh on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will finally reveal what happens to her character when Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) replaces Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) as captain of the USS Enterprise.
La’an Noonien-Singh was a new character introduced in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, alongside Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia). Because these characters weren’t part of the original Star Trek series, the show needs to explain what happens to them and why they eventually leave Captain Kirk’s Enterprise.
La’an’s close friend and mentor, Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn), won’t be staying on the USS Enterprise with Captain Kirk either. It’s possible that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will conclude with Number One taking command of her own ship, and bringing La’an and Ortegas along with her.
Another possibility is that La’an, who is related to Khan Noonien-Singh, might die in the series. The actress who plays her, Christina Chong, has even thought about how that scene could play out. It’s still unclear if Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will take such a tragic turn.
