Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo’s new crime thriller has become an instant streaming hit.
Despite a lackluster run in theaters, the new movie Crime 101, starring Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, has become the most-watched film on Prime Video, surpassing a popular science fiction release. The film centers around Hemsworth’s character, Mike Davis, a professional jewel thief, and his tense rivalry with Detective Lou Lubesnick, played by Ruffalo. While Crime 101 didn’t do well in cinemas, critics have given it rave reviews.
Okay, so I just checked FlixPatrol, and wow! Crime 101 absolutely exploded onto Prime Video. It hit Number 1 worldwide after only one day! The data from April 2nd, 2026, shows it’s currently topping the charts globally, including big markets like the US, UK, Australia, Argentina, and Italy – it’s Number 1 in a whopping 29 countries! I wasn’t expecting that kind of immediate impact.
It’s remarkable how quickly Crime 101 rose to the top of Prime Video, surpassing the sci-fi thriller Mercy, which starred Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson. Mercy had previously held the Number 1 spot, but now it’s at Number 2 overall, though it remains the most popular movie in six countries.
What Crime 101 Overtaking Mercy Says About The Movie
Both Crime 101 and Mercy share several common traits regarding how they were made and released. Both films were distributed by Amazon MGM Studios for theatrical release, and both feature actors who previously appeared in Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Despite budgets exceeding several million dollars, both movies didn’t perform well in theaters.
Okay, so both films came out around the same time, but audiences and critics reacted very differently. Crime 101? Critics loved it – it’s sitting pretty with an 89% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 186 reviews. Mercy, though? That one really bombed. It only managed a 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 178 critics largely giving it the thumbs down when it hit theaters. It was pretty much universally disliked, honestly.
The positive response definitely helped Crime 101 quickly become a popular choice on Prime Video. Both films have been well-received, but the crime thriller’s exciting action, realistic story, and great acting are why it’s become such a big hit on the streaming service so fast.
Crime 101 Is Just The Start For Hemsworth & Ruffalo’s Major 2026 Releases
While Crime 101 is a big film for Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, it’s not the only exciting project they have coming up in 2026. Both actors will also appear in Marvel movies this year: Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July, and Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday in December.
Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth are both working on projects outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ruffalo will appear in the Netflix romantic comedy Good Sex, which is coming out later this year. Hemsworth is currently filming the action films Stuntnuts: The Movie and Subversion, though those aren’t scheduled for release until after 2026.
Despite not being a huge hit in theaters, Crime 101 is proving very popular on streaming services, showing that many people are eager to watch crime thrillers from the comfort of their homes. It’s quickly become more popular than Mercy and is likely to stay a favorite on Prime Video for a while.
