Chinese streamer banned after posting videos of wife’s 23-hour childbirth to advertise diapers

A popular Chinese social media personality is receiving criticism for sharing a video of his wife’s 23-hour labor online. Many people are upset, believing he used a deeply personal and vulnerable medical experience to gain views and promote a diaper brand.

Paul in USA, a content creator, filmed the entire birth process and shared it online. The video included graphic scenes of his wife’s delivery, including her body and the serious complications she experienced.

According to reports, the labor lasted 23 hours and included life-threatening complications.

His wife experienced a severe tear during childbirth and significant blood loss – over 3,000ml – requiring emergency surgery and a blood transfusion. Thankfully, both she and the baby are now doing well.

Even though things were very serious, the influencer kept filming the entire time, even when she was screaming from pain and getting medical help.

People were very upset when they realized the video contained a sponsored diaper ad, and that the influencer was reading a sales pitch while his wife was receiving medical care.

The video quickly drew a lot of criticism online, as many people felt the creator cared more about getting views and making money than protecting his partner’s privacy and well-being.

After the public outcry, the video was taken down and his accounts were blocked on popular Chinese platforms like Weibo and Douyin because he broke rules about privacy and business practices.

Paul, who was born in 1990, graduated from Columbia University and previously worked as a product manager at Microsoft. He now lives in Seattle and started creating videos in 2019 about American life. These videos gained a large audience on Douyin, where he now has over 12 million followers.

Following the criticism, his wife explained that they aimed to honestly capture the realities of childbirth and raise awareness about its potential challenges and unexpected turns.
