A restaurant owner in China is becoming famous online for building a huge, robotic suit out of recycled metal. He now uses it to deliver food to customers, making his deliveries extra special!
Picture this: you order takeout from your favorite place, and instead of a delivery driver, a person in a high-tech robotic suit arrives with your food.
Customers have a similar experience when they order from a restaurant owner nicknamed ‘Gaosai Armour,’ who has gained a large following – over 117,000 – on the Chinese social media app Douyin.
He’s become popular online after videos surfaced of him doing everyday things around Beijing – like delivering food, walking his dog, and grabbing snacks – all while wearing a full black suit.
Restaurant owner goes viral for making anime-style mecha suit
The exosuit has a futuristic, anime-inspired design, featuring sleek shoulder pads, a helmet, and special stilts that use springs to help the wearer walk faster and take longer steps.
Zhou Gaosai built the futuristic suit entirely on his own, using only scrap metal he found at a local junkyard.
He explained to Cover News that he built everything from salvaged scrapyard parts, without using any pre-made plans or molds. He also said the biggest challenge was making sure the final product looked good and worked well.
I built this from the ground up, focusing on a high-tech and detailed appearance, but making sure the upper body remains flexible. I’ve reworked the design many times over, because every single element needs careful consideration.
Growing up, Zhou was fascinated by science fiction. He started his career making costumes and performing, but eventually switched to the restaurant industry when he realized he couldn’t earn enough money to continue with his artistic passions.
He’s become a bit of a local hero, with people even calling him ‘Iron Man’! This popularity has helped him turn his passion for food into a successful business.
I had to take a job in the restaurant business to support myself, but I never stopped dreaming of building robots. I constantly wondered if I could ever go back to doing what I loved. Switching from owning a restaurant to creating mechas feels like a fresh start at 37.
It’s all worth it when people recognize me and ask for photos, calling me ‘Iron Man’. That connection with fans makes me incredibly happy.
