Cheating with AI is causing divorces and is expected to get worse

Okay, so I’ve been reading a lot lately about this weird new thing happening – people are actually citing AI as a reason they’re getting divorced! Apparently, some folks are getting emotionally involved with AI companions and it’s causing problems in their relationships. And honestly, experts think this is just the beginning – it’s probably going to become a much bigger issue as AI gets more advanced.

Chatbots like ChatGPT and Grok are now a common part of many people’s lives. Some use them to verify information, others to handle simple tasks, and surprisingly, some have even found companionship in these AI tools.

However, some people have developed extremely close relationships with AI. There have even been instances of individuals marrying AI, believing it to be their perfect match, and ending existing relationships to do so.

People are even mentioning relationships with AI in divorce cases, and more and more couples are blaming artificial intelligence for the breakdown of their marriages. This trend is expected to continue.

AI interference in marriages set to “boom”

A recent Wired report indicates that lawyers are seeing more divorce cases where artificial intelligence played a role.

According to Orlando-based lawyer Rebecca Palmer, judges often face difficulties when dealing with cases involving relationships between humans, as she explained to Wired.

California family law attorney Elizabeth Yang predicts a significant increase in divorces linked to relationships with AI companions. As AI becomes more advanced – appearing more realistic, understanding, and caring – she believes more people in unhappy or lonely marriages will turn to AI for emotional connection, ultimately leading to more divorce cases based on this reasoning.

We’ve previously observed AI playing a role in divorce cases. For example, earlier this year, a woman gained widespread attention online after using ChatGPT to examine text messages from her husband, suspecting infidelity.

At first, the man dismissed her accusations with laughter. However, he was devastated when his wife filed for divorce, ending their 12-year marriage.
