Rose McGowan has shared details about her experiences working on the popular show Charmed. From 2001 to 2006, she played Paige Matthews, the half-sister of the show’s magical main characters. Although she appeared in 112 episodes over four seasons, McGowan recently discussed on the We Need to Talk podcast how she faced significant discrimination from executives at The WB.
When I returned after each season, team staff would always check my weight. It felt like they were simply evaluating me as an asset, and it was done very directly – there wasn’t much concern for my feelings. Back then, that was perfectly acceptable. Now, they feel like they have to publicly pretend to support a more understanding approach.
People often ask if Hollywood has changed, and honestly, I’m not sure. But it definitely seems less influential globally than it used to be.
Rose McGowan has described a deeply hostile work environment on the set of Charmed. She reportedly asked producers if they would fire her for smoking marijuana on set, and claims they responded with a shockingly harsh threat: they would sue her, seize her wages for life, and even pursue legal action against her family, no matter where she worked.
Why Rose McGowan Accepted the ‘Scream’ Job

Dimension Films
Before landing her role on Charmed, Rose McGowan starred in the classic 1996 horror film Scream, directed by Wes Craven. Scream became a huge success, leading to six sequels, including the upcoming Scream 7 releasing next month. In the film, McGowan played Tatum Riley, the best friend of Sidney Prescott and Dewey Riley’s sister.
In an interview with Scream Obsessed, the 52-year-old actress discussed why she accepted the role of her character, who famously died in one of the most surprising scenes in the Scream movies – being killed by the garage door.
I was immediately drawn to the script – it was brilliantly written, unlike anything I’d read before, and still stands out to me. The moment I got to the scene where Tatum pleads, ‘Please don’t kill me, Mr. Ghostface… I wanna be in the sequel,’ I knew I had to play her. It felt perfect, and I was excited to bring that character to life.
Confusingly, Scream 7 is somehow bringing back Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher and David Arquette’s Dewey, despite both of them ending up on a slab across the movie series. While we eagerly await the resolution of that mysterious talking point, here’s the official synopsis:
Sidney Prescott thought she’d escaped her terrifying past, but when a new Ghostface appears and targets her daughter, those fears return. She’s forced to confront the horrors she’s tried to leave behind to protect her family and finally stop the cycle of violence.
