Charlie Hunnam Will Return to Monster Season 4 as Production Starts

Netflix is already working on a new season of its popular true crime series, *Monster*. Season 4 will focus on the story of Lizzie Borden, the woman from Massachusetts who was famously accused of killing her parents in 1892.

Tudum recently shared exciting news about the next season of *Monster*, including that production has begun. Ella Beatty, known for her work with *Monster* co-creator Ryan Murphy on the *Feud* series *Capote vs. The Swans*, will star as Lizzie Borden. Charlie Hunnam, fresh off his leading role in a recently released show, will also return for the fourth season, this time playing Lizzie’s father, Andrew Borden.

Several people who worked on *Monster: The Ed Gein Story* are returning for Season 4, including director Max Winkler, who will helm the first episode, and Vicky Krieps, playing Bridget Sullivan, the Borden family’s maid. The cast also features Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, Lizzie’s stepmother; Billie Lourd as Lizzie’s sister, Emma; and Jessica Barden as Lizzie’s friend, actress Nance O’Neill. Filming began today, October 9th, in Los Angeles.

Monster Has Become a Huge Franchise for Netflix

Originally planned as a single season, the show *Monster*, created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, quickly became a hit on Netflix. Starring Evan Peters as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the first season, titled *The Jeffrey Dahmer Story*, released in 2022, became one of the platform’s most popular series ever – ranking second all-time in English-language viewership within 28 days and exceeding 1 billion hours viewed in just 60 days. Due to this success, Netflix decided to extend *Monster* for two more seasons.

The show focuses on the true story of brothers (played by Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez) who were found guilty in 1996 of killing their parents. Similar to its first season, the show, titled *Monsters*, was very popular on Netflix, becoming one of the top three most-watched series during the latter half of 2024. Across the first two seasons of this crime anthology, the show has earned a total of 24 Emmy nominations and won two awards.

The newest season of *Monster*, titled *The Ed Gein Story*, came out on October 3rd. This season is unique because it’s the first one not created with Ryan Murphy’s involvement; Brennan wrote and created it entirely on their own. The eight episodes tell the story of Ed Gein, a convicted murderer, grave robber, and suspected serial killer who inspired films like *The Silence of the Lambs*. Within its first three days on Netflix, *Monster* Season 3 was viewed 12.2 million times worldwide.

Netflix has not yet shared a release window for Monster Season 4.
