Channing Tatum recently revealed some of his ideas for a Gambit movie that was in development at 20th Century Fox.
Okay, so Channing Tatum was awesome as Gambit in the new *Deadpool & Wolverine* trailer! And get this – he’s going to be back as Gambit in *Avengers: Doomsday* too! They’ve already finished filming that one, and it’s hitting theaters in 2026. I’m already counting down the days!
What did Channing Tatum say about the Gambit movie?
Before his involvement with the new X-Men project, Channing Tatum spent years trying to develop a standalone Gambit movie while 20th Century Fox held the rights to the character. In a recent interview with Variety, he described his vision for the film and discussed the possibility of it happening now that Marvel Studios owns the X-Men franchise.
He explained that if they’d developed their own version of the film at Fox, it would never have been produced. The script was a very explicit romantic comedy – they really pushed the boundaries with it. They envisioned Gambit as a character who fit perfectly alongside Deadpool, even including scenes of mutants being intimate. He felt this was something Marvel and Disney would never allow, noting that Disney consistently avoids mature themes like horror and sex. He believes Marvel could benefit from a wider range of tones to balance their existing content, and Gambit offers a great opportunity for that. He thinks Gambit has a lot of potential and is gradually becoming more recognized within the Marvel universe, and that Marvel will eventually realize his value.
Tatum mentioned that there are discussions about what might happen with Gambit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ movie. He believes that if fans show strong interest, Gambit could eventually get a more significant role.
Avengers: Doomsday hits United States theaters on December 18, 2026.
