Championship football club mock claims their player is recording MrBeast video

A story is circulating that a soccer player left his team to appear in a video with popular YouTuber MrBeast, and his teammates are now playfully acknowledging the rumour.

Derby County has been missing their goalkeeper, Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, for several weeks. The team says he’s been ill with a virus, but rumors are circulating that he may have been participating in a MrBeast challenge on the side.

That wasn’t actually true, but the story gained traction, particularly when Zetterstrom’s coworkers began sharing and supporting it online.

Why do people think Derby County star is doing a MrBeast challenge?

It all began when a Derby County supporter shared a text message they’d received, claiming that goalkeeper Zetterstrom wasn’t actually injured. The message suggested he was secretly participating in MrBeast’s ‘100 Days Locked In’ challenge.

The message revealed that Zetterstrom is currently unable to participate because he’s filming a video with MrBeast – it’s a project where a professional soccer player is locked in a location for 100 days. The club isn’t aware this information has been leaked, so please don’t mention you heard it from anyone.

I don’t know who authorized it, but it seems like this had been scheduled for some time. I heard the manager, John Eustace, was really angry about it.

It all seemed far-fetched, but when other Derby County players began mentioning Zetterstrom’s unexplained absence, rumors quickly spread like wildfire.

I saw this funny post online – Dion Sanderson shared a pic of Zetterstrom’s locker room space, and the caption was basically joking that he was trying to make it through MrBeast’s crazy 100-day challenge. It was a good laugh!

Despite how amusing it might seem, the player is simply sick and hasn’t been involved in any online challenge.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is a beast on the pitch

Man, this Swedish goalie has been amazing since he signed with Derby County in 2024. Last season was a bit of a struggle for the whole team, but we managed to stay up, and this year, in 2025/26, we’ve seriously stepped up our game. He’s a huge part of that!

This season, Zetterstrom has appeared in 28 matches for the Rams, achieving six clean sheets and significantly helping Derby get close to qualifying for the Championship play-offs.

With only 11 games left in the season, he’s eager to recover from his illness (or finish the difficult MrBeast challenge!) and return to play. He wants to help his team secure promotion back to the Premier League, which they haven’t been in since 2008.
