2025 has been a tough year for cinephiles like myself, as we’ve bid farewell to some truly iconic figures in the film industry. The passing of David Lynch, the brilliant mind behind “Blue Velvet” and “Twin Peaks,” sent shockwaves through the cinematic world. For weeks afterward, tributes poured in from all corners, celebrating his visionary spirit and indelible impact on cinema.
In the realm of music, Garth Hudson, the lone surviving member of The Band, passed away in January. Meanwhile, Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul and Mary parted ways with us in the same month. Famous actresses who bid farewell in January include Dame Judi Dench (Joan Plowright) and Leslie Charleson.
2024 marked the farewell of several beloved entertainers such as Shannen Doherty, Bob Newhart, Louis Gossett Jr., Donald Sutherland, and James Earl Jones from the show business world.
Jeff Baena
Screenwriter and director Jeff Baena, known for unconventional comedies like “The Little Hours” and “Life After Beth,” passed away on January 3rd. Baena was married to Aubrey Plaza, who acted in his movies “The Little Hours” (a 2017 black comedy set in a medieval convent) and “Life After Beth” (a comedic take on zombies).
