Cedric the Entertainer Unmasked as Honey Pot on ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 13 Premiere

⚠️ HEED THIS WARNING: Here’s a peek into the premiere episode of “The Masked Singer” season 13, titled “Fortunate Season 13,” that aired on February 12th on Fox.

It’s no surprise that Cedric the Entertainer earned his name – he’s not just a comedian or actor, but much more. In fact, during his college days, Cedric was part of singing groups where he’d harmonize beautifully with others. As he began to perform, he’d often incorporate singing into his shows, using different voices and humor along the way, as he shared in an interview with EbMaster.

Currently, in his Las Vegas performance alongside Toni Braxton, Cedric primarily delivers standup comedy but occasionally performs a Nat King Cole song. This prompted him to join “The Masked Singer.” On the Season 13 debut on Wednesday, Cedric the Entertainer was the first to be unveiled as the Honey Pot character.

According to Ken Jeong for “Honey Pot”, Cedric the Entertainer and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg both share the same opinion. Robin Thicke believes it’s Martin Lawrence, while Rita Ora thinks Eddie Murphy is the correct choice.

For his act, Cedric chose Justin Timberlake’s hit “Sexyback.” If given another chance, he intended to perform a song by Luther Vandross. The celebrity admitted that he faced some difficulties with the Honey Pot costume and therefore scaled back his performance slightly.

During practice, I tripped a few times because I couldn’t tell where my feet were and get a feel for my location,” he explained, adding that he had to put in extra effort to stay balanced.

Regardless, he described it as a fantastic encounter. Wishing he could’ve sung another tune, at the very least one additional, he stated this. If given the chance to linger and perform another, he could’ve cultivated an intriguing fanbase, he added.

However, it’s worth noting that Cedric the Entertainer has been revealed as the character Honey Pot, marking the first celebrity to be unveiled on “The Masked Singer” for this season.

The thirteenth season commenced with the panelists, Rita Ora and Robin Thicke, teaming up to perform “Get Lucky”, joined by Mario, who had previously appeared as Wasp during Season 12.

In Season 13, we have Nick Cannon returning as host, joined by regular panelists Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, Rita Ora (who is back for her third straight season to replace Nicole Scherzinger), and Robin Thicke.

This season introduces a secretive figure known as “Detective Lucky Duck” who will periodically offer hints to aid the judges in solving the mystery of each week’s contestant’s identity, hidden behind masks. Additionally, a fresh feature called “Crack the Case” will provide additional tips about the contestants that have been eliminated from the competition.

Honey Pot’s clue case included a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Season 13 of “The Masked Singer” features episodes themed around popular franchises like “Shrek” and “Ghostbusters”, as well as celebrating the Grand Ole Opry’s centennial. In addition, you can expect tributes to the Rat Pack, a variety of themes such as “Voices of Olympus: Unveiling the Gods”, “Carnival”, “Boy Bands”, “Decades”, “Lucky 6 Speed Guessing”, a “Clash of the Masks”, and the return of “Soundtrack of My Life”.

Contestants hidden in Season 13 are named Honey Pot, Space Ranger, Cherry Blossom, Coral, Fuzzy Peas, Ant, Photographer, Griffin, and Bat, with additional competitors yet to be revealed at a later time.

Here were the performances on Wednesday’s Episode 1, “Lucky Season 13”:

Honey Pot

Song: “Sexyback,” by Justin Timberlake

Panel guesses: Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Keegan Michael Key

Honey Pot’s Voiceover: “Hey there, I see you there! You’ve got style with that bowtie, it suits you. I’m turning into the Honey Pot because I believe you can catch flies with honey, but you can catch even more sweethearts by being charming! I’m all about having a good time. So when it comes to this show, bring it on. Welcome to ‘What’s the Buzz’! The categories: Laughter, Cash, and Sweethearts. First question, who is one of the pioneers in modern-day comedy? Next, who has earned over two billion dollars at the box office? The answer? Again, it’s yours truly! Lastly, who is considered the most desirable man on Earth by the ladies? The answer? Brad Pitt. But I wasn’t far behind. Now, let’s see what they’ve won: Me!

Ant

Song: “Just Give Me a Reason,” by Pink

Panel guesses: Lea Michele, Lindsay Lohan, Kesha, Ashanti

Ant Narrator: “I vow to give you a fair hearing, I assure you. You may wonder why I’m an Ant. Well, ants are tiny but incredibly strong, and they can even lift objects that are more than fifty times their own weight! Yet, just because we can carry heavy loads doesn’t mean we should always have to. For years, I’ve been carrying a heavy secret, one that powerful individuals tried to suppress or eliminate. The burden of it nearly destroyed me. But now, I’ve made a choice. I can remain broken, or I can stand as a warrior. That’s why I am here – to battle for my voice to be heard. And just like any ant, I’ll keep marching towards genuine change.

Regarding her courage: “Tonight, I stand before you all, not just here on stage, but for every survivor. I acknowledge your presence, I recognize those who have persevered, I stand with you. United, we will never be silenced or extinguished.

Paparazzo

Song: “The Door,” by Teddy Swims

Panel guesses: Taron Egerton, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kieran Culkin

Narrator (in a Paparazzo-like tone): “Becoming a Paparazzo seems fitting for me, seeing as the camera has always been trained on me throughout my life. Although you’ve witnessed countless aspects of my career, there’s one thing I haven’t had the opportunity to do – perform on a grand stage. That is, until tonight. And honestly, I must admit that I’m petrified. I’ve collaborated with legends, dominated the big screen, and even escorted the nation’s darling to a prom. But this endeavor takes me far out of my safe zone, and I find myself trembling with apprehension. However, it’s that very fear that encourages me to take the leap. And though I won’t be flawless, I plan to dig deep, suppress my anxiety, and hopefully win your hearts.

Regarding my well-known acquaintances: “Hang out with me, and I might share some intriguing stories about a friend of mine named Steve Martin!

Fuzzy Peas

Song: “La Bamba,” by Ritchie Valens

Panel guesses: Mario Lopez, George Lopez, John Leguizamo

Fuzzy Peas voiceover: “If someone had said to me that one day I’d be donning the Fuzzy Peas outfit, I would have replied, ‘you bet! I totally see that!’ This feels like it’s just for me. He’s quirky, he’s debonair, yet he exudes an air of conquest. You know, I’m the third generation in my profession, and we’ve all stood up for our convictions. Infused with a pinch of my mother’s fervor and music, I’ve become known for my chart-topping hits, some even Grammy-nominated. Yum! I even managed to fulfill her last wish – a gold record. Now, as Fuzzy Peas, I stand at the helm of my own destiny because I never shy away from a challenge or a celebration!

About his night at the Grammys: “I was nominated with Shakira and Christina Aguilera.”

Coral

Song: “Mad World,” by Tears for Fears

Panel guesses: Bebe Rexha, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sabrina Carpenter, Halsey

Narrator’s Voice: “The Coral costume is stunningly regal, yet it carries a tough, robust quality – the kind that symbolizes strength and resilience. This is something I can deeply identify with. From my childhood days, I harbored dreams of becoming a shining star. I implored everyone, ‘Let me serenade you.’ However, for eight long years, I faced one rejection after another. I was merely a determined young girl navigating the chaotic world of the entertainment industry. On the brink of surrender, a small triumph echoed my voice to the farthest corners of the earth. Unforeseen madness has now guided me here. As Coral, I’m reaching out with my net, aiming for a new ambition: Winning that trophy.

Her response to doubters: “The many times I heard ‘no’ only made me more determined. One single ‘yes’ set me on the path to achieving success!

In Season 12 of “The Masked Singer”, Boyz II Men (portraying the Buffalo) clinched the victory, edging out Mario (dressed as the Wasp), who ended up as the season’s second place contender.
