As a fan of heartfelt comedies that resonate deeply with diverse audiences, I am absolutely thrilled about Zarna Garg’s latest venture! With her rich background as a stand-up comedian, actress, and writer, it’s no surprise she’s taking the lead in “Zarna,” a comedy that beautifully captures the struggles and triumphs of an immigrant woman pursuing her American dream.

Delightfully, I’m excited to share that Zarna Garg will be gracing our screens in an upcoming multi-camera comedy series on CBS, as I’ve recently discovered!

Garg, alongside with others, will pen and oversee the production of the pilot titled “Zarna”. Darlene Hunt, known for her work on “Call Me Kat” and “The Big C”, is also involved as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner for this project. This project was initially revealed to be in progress back in September.

Mindy Kaling, Jessica Kumai Scott, and several other partners are working together to executive produce a project under the banner of Kaling International. This includes Howard Klein from 3 Arts Entertainment, as well as Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, and Mike Stein through Hartbeat Productions. The studio for this production is Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling International has an overall deal.

The main tagline for the opening episode is, “Zarna, a devoted immigrant mother, has instilled Indian traditions in her children who were born in America. As they grow up, she must now prioritize pursuing her personal American aspirations.

Garg is currently a well-known stand-up comedian; she released her latest special, “One in a Billion,” on Amazon Prime Video in 2023. In addition to this, she took home the title in the Peacock comedy competition series “Lyft Comics” in 2021. Previously, as an actress, she appeared in the comedy film “A Nice Indian Boy.” As a writer, her screenplay “Rearranged” won the best comedy screenplay award at the 2019 Austin Film Festival and was also named a semi-finalist for the Academy Nicholl Fellowships.

She’s represented by William Morris Endeavor, 3 Arts, and Hansen Jacobson. On the other hand, Hunt is managed by United Talent Agency and McKuin Frankel Whitehead. (or)

Recently, CBS has placed its second order for a comedy pilot within a few months. Earlier, they commissioned the single-camera comedy pilot “DMV,” which boasts an ensemble cast featuring Tim Meadows, Harriet Dyer, Molly Kearney, Alex Tarrant, Tony Cavalero, and Gigi Zumbado.
