Caves Of Qud Finally Launches Today After 15 Years Of Development

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia upon hearing about Caves of Qud’s grand release. This game isn’t just another indie title; it’s a labor of love that’s been in development for an astounding 15 years! That’s longer than I’ve been married, and my first gaming console was still a whopping 26 years ago.

Today, December 5th, marks the full release of Caves of Qud, a roguelike open-world RPG, as announced by its developers, Freehold Games. The game initially entered early access on Steam back in July 15, 2015, but according to Freehold Games, development for this title has actually been ongoing for a whopping 15 years! So, grab your gaming gear and dive into the world of Caves of Qud today at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET.

In the initial release of version 1.0 for Caves of Qud, it comes bundled with the Dromad deluxe edition. This special edition also includes a tutorial and the final story quest featuring multiple endings. The Dromad deluxe edition boasts additional features such as an upgraded soundtrack and the Harvest Dawn Pets DLC pack, which instantly grants access to in-game pets at the outset of the game. For those who have already purchased Caves of Qud, they can buy the soundtrack and DLC pack individually.

I regret to inform you that earlier save files won’t work with the complete edition of the game. But don’t worry! You can still enjoy your previous games on the 208.x legacy version, accessible via the ‘Betas’ menu on Steam.

The game “Caves of Qud” is priced at $30, but until December 12th, there’s a 15% discount available for its launch. To mark the release, Freehold Games is hosting a speedrunning contest for streamers today. The fastest players to complete the game will win “Caves of Quid” prize packs.

In simpler terms, Freehold Games has announced they intend to continue providing additional content for Caves of Qud following its version 1.0 release, sharing specifics about this in an upcoming announcement.
