Catherine Zeta-Jones to Star in Revenge Thriller Series ‘Kill Jackie,’ Based on Nick Harkaway Novel, From Prime Video, Fremantle and Steel Springs

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will feature in an upcoming revenge thriller series titled “Kill Jackie” (tentative name), produced by Prime Video, Fremantle, and Steel Springs Pictures. The story is adapted from the novel “The Price You Pay,” penned under the pen name Aidan Truhen by renowned author Nick Harkaway. Filming for this series commences in March.

The award-winning actor will play Jackie Price, a woman who’s been living a lavish, globetrotting lifestyle for two decades, peddling fine art through intricate tax loopholes and maintaining anonymity due to her former life as an international drug dealer. However, when her routine life takes an unexpected lethal twist as she learns that a team of the world’s deadliest assassins, known as The Seven Demons, have been contracted to eliminate her, she digs into her past instincts and sets out on a thrilling, perilous mission: to eliminate each demon before they can kill her. Yet, she soon finds that her inner demons are far more menacing than the cold-blooded killers pursuing her… and as she unearths long-buried secrets, she discovers that the truth lies much closer to home, with startling ramifications.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, who holds an executive producer role, expressed her excitement in a statement: “I’m delighted to be involved with ‘Kill Jackie’ (working title), whether that’s on or off set. The chance to breathe life into this complex character and delve into a narrative that revolves around empowerment, self-discovery, and redemption is something I eagerly anticipate.

The show “Kill Jackie” is scheduled to film in Bilbao, Lisbon, London, and Swansea. A deal orchestrated by Jamie Lynn from Fremantle and negotiated by Rebecca Dundon and Fran Denny has secured streaming rights for the series on Prime Video in countries like the U.K., Ireland, Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Canada. Fremantle will manage sales in all other regions excluding the United States, where Steel Springs Pictures will take charge.

I’m thrilled to be part of the team bringing ‘Kill Jackie’ (working title) to life on Prime Video U.K., and I couldn’t be more excited about collaborating with Catherine Zeta-Jones and our exceptional creative crew. This series, with its daring narrative, striking aesthetic, and shocking plot twists, promises to enthrall viewers worldwide. I can hardly wait for everyone to delve into the story ourselves and Prime Video audiences have the chance to experience it.

The TV series was developed and jointly penned by Conor Keane, a person who additionally serves as an associate producer. Damon Thomas, known for “Killing Eve,” will take on the main directing role, while Tom Butterworth from “Gangs of London” is in charge of writing and overseeing the show.

Butterworth expressed in a statement that they adored Nick’s wildly exciting thriller novel. Our goal is to warp and enlarge his universe into something just as humorous, ominous, chaotic, and one-of-a-kind… or we’ll give it our best shot!

Besides Zeta-Jones, the executive producers also include Peter Lawson, Jose Augustin Valdes (from Steel Springs Pictures), Dante Di Loreto (from Fremantle), and a trio consisting of Butterworth, Thomas, and Jeffrey Levine. José Luis Escolar’s Deabru Kalea Filmeak is overseeing the production process in Bizkaia.

Speaking about Nick’s novel, Peter Lawson from Steel Springs Pictures remarked that it demanded a group of artists with a shared affinity for dark humor and a hint of insanity to breathe life into this crime comedy. He expressed excitement about discovering such talent in the formidable creative energy of Catherine Zeta-Jones, the comedic flair of writer Conor Keane, the skilled showrunner Tom Butterworth, and the skillful direction of Damon Thomas.

Christian Vesper, CEO of Fremantle’s global drama and film division, commented: “The working title ‘Kill Jackie’ is a fresh, modern thriller that offers a mix of intensity, escapism, and dark humor. Catherine Zeta-Jones gives an outstanding performance as the titular character, and with our talented creative team, intricate plot twists, and expansive international setting, I have high hopes that viewers worldwide will be captivated.

The media rights agreement for the book was managed by Curtis Brown’s team, acting on behalf of Patrick Walsh from PEW Literary.
