There are few movies that come with almost unanimous praise, a bounty of awards, and a legacy that has not diminished over the last 51 years, but Chinatown is that enigma. Released in 1974, Chinatown was, first and foremost, a box office hit, with its budget of $6 million being turned into a $29 million gross. However, it was much more than just a cinematic hit, it was – as was confirmed in 1991 with its preservation in the US National Film Registry at the Library of Congress – a movie that had “cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance.” For many people, it could have all three. What is Chinatown actually about? The synopsis reads:

Although fans still love the movie True Lies, a sequel hasn’t been made, but Jamie Lee Curtis hasn’t given up hope. After returning to her roles in Halloween and Freaky Friday, the actress says she’d gladly play Helen Tasker again. However, Curtis doesn’t think a sequel is likely unless James Cameron is involved. I’m so excited about this new show! Gregg Henry is playing Henry Kendall Thaw, and Drew Anderson is his wife, Evelyn Nesbit. Apparently, their relationship is pretty intense – the show is called The Artist, and Drew was talking about filming her very first scene with Gregg. She said they literally met about ten minutes before they started! Nobody really knew what to expect from each other’s portrayal of the characters. Then, suddenly, they were smashing glass and breaking the bed! She said that’s when it really hit her – they were really going for it and fully immersed in the roles. It sounds amazing!

I’m really hoping to see Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf again in future Lord of the Rings projects! He’s even suggested he might be in Andy Serkis’ new film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is amazing. I was listening to the commentary for The Fellowship of the Ring and McKellen talked about how much he loved filming his scenes with Martin Freeman, who played Bilbo. He actually said those days were two of the best of his entire career! While Gandalf didn’t get to spend as much time with Bilbo as he did with the rest of the Fellowship, it’s clear those scenes meant a lot to everyone involved – both us as fans and the actors themselves.

Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds offered a wide range of stories, starting with the exciting premiere, “Hegemony, Part 2,” and including the unique holodeck mystery “A Space Adventure Hour,” directed by Jonathan Frakes. The season concluded with a touching ending to the romance between Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) and Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount).

The show was revealed a little while ago and began filming in September. Shortly after, two more main actors were cast. However, according to reports, Michael Michele has already left the series after only a few weeks of production.

The upcoming reboot of The Mummy, from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., is reportedly titled The Resurrected. Film insider Daniel Richtman shared the potential title and a brief summary of the plot.
