Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that they’re creating a new Star Trek comedy series – a first for live-action in the franchise. While the initial idea of the show – about characters who are outsiders to the Federation working on a resort planet – has changed a bit, it will be set in the 25th century, after the events of Star Trek: Picard, and Tawny Newsome will star as a new character.
Jodie Foster recently shared a story with W Magazine about an incident that happened when she was a child actor on the set of the Disney film Napoleon and Samantha. She was asked if she had any scars, and recounted being grabbed by a lion during filming – a story she’s told before.
The representative didn’t explain the change to the new Marshals title. While it likely simplifies the title and makes it easier to read by removing the Y:, it also disconnects it from the show it originated from, Yellowstone.
This platform is particularly strong with science fiction movies and TV shows, offering both licensed titles and original productions. Currently, a standout sci-fi film, The Creator, has climbed into Prime Video’s Top 10, and its stunning visuals are better than many big-budget Hollywood releases.
It’s rare for spin-offs to live up to the original show, so if the new ones aren’t huge hits, that wouldn’t be surprising. The original series was incredibly successful – it earned 256 award nominations, won 81 awards, and consistently received a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Matching that level of success is a tall order, like trying to follow in LeBron James’ footsteps as a basketball player. However, anything is possible. Fans are hoping the new shows will be as good as Better Call Saul, and not end up like Suits: LA. Hopefully, the creators won’t overdo it and exhaust the franchise.
I just read that Nick Reiner’s lawyer, Jackson, dropped him as a client right outside the courthouse, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently, Jackson can’t say why he quit the case – something about things being out of his hands. But he did make a very direct statement, and I’m quoting him here because it’s important: ‘Pursuant to the law of California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder.’ He wanted that printed, and honestly, as someone who follows these cases closely, that’s a pretty bold thing to say.
Milo Manheim is well known for playing Zed, the lead zombie, in Disney Channel’s popular Zombies movies. He also starred alongside Liz Gillies in an Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, and is the son of actress Camryn Manheim. Meanwhile, Michael Gracey, the director of The Greatest Showman and the 2024 film Better Man, is set to direct the live-action adaptation of Tangled. Kristin Burr (known for Freaky Friday and Cruella) is producing, and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) is writing the screenplay.
