‘The Amateur’ Review: Rami Malek Is a CIA Analyst Turned Avenger in a Thriller More By-the-Code Than It Looks

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve always found that unauthorized vengeance makes for the most compelling stories. You see, an officially sanctioned revenge tale just wouldn’t pack the same punch. It’s the law-breaking, the gritty underbelly, that gives these movies their edge. I trace the modern revenge film back to “Joe” (1970), where Peter Boyle’s character took on a hippie commune with vengeance in his heart. But let’s not forget classics like “Walking Tall” (1973) and “Death Wish” (1974), which showcased men taking matters into their own hands, armed with everything from handguns to hickory clubs. These films played a significant role in shaping the conservative narrative, long before Fox News – their ‘no mercy’ message was echoed in countless right-wing talk radio broadcasts. The legacy of this genre could arguably be seen in the emphasis on revenge in Donald Trump’s political agenda. At times, he appears more like the Punisher than the President.

‘White Lotus’ Creator Mike White Fires Back at Composer Who’s Quitting After Creative Clash: ‘He Didn’t Respect Me… It Was Kind of a Bitch Move’

He left the show without any explanation, but now I’m reading his interviews because it seems like he’s launching a PR campaign about his departure, according to what he said in an interview on ‘The Howard Stern Show.’ To be honest, I don’t think he valued me. He wants people to perceive him as bold and mysterious, while I, well, I just watch reality TV. We never really had any major disagreements. He claims we feuded, but I can’t recall any fights – only some emails with suggestions and revisions. I believe he disliked receiving feedback from me because he didn’t respect my input. I knew he wasn’t a team player and always wanted to do things his way. It was surprising that he chose to criticize me and the show in an interview with The New York Times just three days before the finale. It felt like a low blow.

Furthermore, there’s been an 8% increase in streaming of the series on Paramount+ compared to last year.

35 Years of Twin Peaks Magic: Relive the Top 15 Unforgettable Moments That Haunt Us!

If you watched it back in 1990-1992 during its initial run, you probably still recall how mesmerizing and thought-provoking it was each week, sparking endless debate as we waited for answers before the internet could confirm or debunk theories. (For a 16-year-old at the time, this show also led to frustration, especially when its cancellation loomed, and I wasn’t old enough to attend the bars hosting “Save Twin Peaks” gatherings.)

Speak the F— Up

We’re sitting in a bustling café located on New York City’s Lower East Side during a cold Saturday afternoon in March, and Whitford is discussing the upcoming final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” airing this week on Hulu. In this series, he portrays Commander Joseph Lawrence, a character who created the fictional Gilead – an oppressive society modeled after America under the control of extremist white Christian nationalists and their wives. These women, after seizing power and overthrowing the U.S. government, enslave other women, subject them to cruel treatments such as torture, mutilation, rape, and steal their children. Whitford is clearly expressing his concern that we might be moving in this direction.

First Glance: “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” Final Trailer

As a die-hard film fan, I’m thrilled to share that Tom Cruise, our prolific producer and star, is teaming up once more with the brilliant Christopher McQuarrie, director, writer, and producer, in the direct sequel to the 2023 blockbuster “Dead Reckoning Part One”. This time around, we have a reunion of familiar faces from the Mission: Impossible franchise, including Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Haley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, and Pom Klementieff. The plot revolves around a race to control a rogue artificial intelligence known as “The Entity”. With catchphrases like “Every Choice, every mission, has all led to this“, expect another dose of high-octane action, breathtaking adventure, and perhaps this could be the last impossible mission we embark on together with this stellar cast.
