In the season finale of Nobody Wants This, Joanne (Kristen Bell) reveals to her friends that her boyfriend, Noah (Adam Brody), has asked her about converting to Judaism, and she’s considering it. However, she soon realizes that Noah can’t maintain his religious beliefs while also being with her if she doesn’t commit to conversion. During a tearful conversation at his niece’s bat mitzvah, she breaks up with him, believing it’s the least painful option. Premiering at the Arab Film Festival in Berlin last year and shown at Pordenone last month, Palestine: A Revised Narrative is a unique film experience called a “cine-concert.” It combines edited silent newsreel footage of Palestine from Britain’s Imperial War Museum with a live, 30-minute musical performance by Beirut-based artist Cynthia Zaven. Zaven’s score blends original music with atmospheric soundscapes created with Lebanese sound designer Rana Eid. The soundscapes include distant recordings of speeches by figures like Yasser Arafat and Henry Kissinger, where the words fade into a low hum, as well as old audio recordings of Haifa discovered in Eid’s family archives.

Originally published as a 12-part series between 1995 and 2005, the story has now been collected into a single book. Several film adaptations were planned in the past, with directors like David Fincher, Alexandre Aja, and Rick Famuyiwa attached, but none came to fruition. Hopefully, this attempt will finally succeed. Prepare to be captivated!

HBO Max will add several new titles in November, including two upcoming 2025 A24 films: Ari Aster’s Eddington, a story about a conflict between a mayor and sheriff during the Covid pandemic, and Materialists, a romantic comedy directed by Celine Song (who also directed Past Lives – which is also coming to HBO Max next month and is considered one of the best films of recent years). A three-part documentary series focusing on baseball star Alex Rodriguez, titled Alex vs Arod, will also be available.

I’m hearing some interesting news out of DC Studios. Knight Edge Media is reporting they’ve trademarked the name “Salvation Run” – and they filed it just days after the Peacemaker Season 2 finale aired! While DC Comics already owns the rights to “Salvation Run” in the comic book world, it seems DC Studios is securing a separate trademark, likely for a potential movie – it could be live-action or animated, they haven’t specified yet. It definitely sounds like they’re developing something new based on that title, and I’m intrigued to see where they take it.

The movie Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc premiered in the U.S. on October 22nd and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 100% score from critics based on 14 reviews, and a 99% audience score, suggesting it’s a hit with viewers before its official release in the U.S. and Canada on October 24th. Critics are especially impressed with the film’s exciting action, stunning animation, and compelling story, noting its unique combination of emotional moments and intense, often shocking, action.

Warner Bros. announced on October 31st that it’s up for sale, and both Netflix and Comcast are believed to be potential buyers. A possible merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount has sparked worries about job losses and a reduction in the variety of new movies and shows, as a single, very large company could control a lot of content.
