Despite some strong moments, the film doesn’t quite come together as a satisfying whole, largely because it doesn’t fully explore its ideas. Surprisingly, its look behind the scenes of fame actually holds it back – it feels like the filmmaker identified with the troubled character from Bojack Horseman and couldn’t accept the idea that redemption isn’t guaranteed. I think Game of Thrones proved that adults want complex, mature fantasy, and now we’re getting amazing series like Outlander, Interview with a Vampire, and Castlevania because of it. It truly paved the way!
