Digimon Story: Time Stranger Review

I usually try to go into new games without letting my past experiences with the series color my judgment, but honestly, I was pretty indifferent to Digimon Time Stranger at first. Previous Digimon games had disappointed me so much that I just didn’t have high hopes. But then I actually got to play it at Summer Game Fest and PAX West, and that totally changed things! It started to feel really special – there was a certain charm to it that reminded me of classic Japanese RPGs from the PS2 days. I started to get really excited about it.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is great on Steam Deck, but PS5 should’ve been better

As Josh covered in his preview, Digimon Story: Time Stranger offers a lot of customization options specifically for PC. After playing the full game for over 17 hours on PC, I’m really pleased with what’s included. You can change the display mode (borderless or windowed), resolution (from 720p up to 4K, with support for 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios), and target frame rate (30, 60, or 144). There are also several image quality presets, and you can fine-tune these settings: toggle v-sync, toggle FXAA, MSAA (from 0x to 8x), toggle TAA, toggle depth of field, toggle bloom, toggle volumetric fog, toggle screen space reflections, toggle ambient occlusion, adjust texture quality (low, medium, high), adjust texture filtering (from bilinear to anisotropic 16x), and adjust character density (low, high, very high). Digimon Story: Time Stranger also lets you rebind almost all controls when using either a controller or keyboard and mouse through the button configuration options.

CloverPit on PS5, Xobox or Switch? All we know about console release

Currently, the developers haven’t made any official announcement regarding a possible console version. They seem just as surprised by the success of CloverPit. Their earlier game, Yellow taxi goes vroom, didn’t achieve nearly the same level of popularity, only reaching a peak of 174 concurrent players (according to SteamDB).
